MSE News: Virgin Media broadband customers to be hit with price hikes from November

  • I'm currently on 'Up to 50 Mbps' Broadband Only (No phone OR TV packages) and I am paying 33.29 GBP per month before the rise.

    1) Does anyone else pay as much as this per month?

Due to having some aluminium cable between my house and exchange (which is too far away for ADSL), I can't switch from VM for BB.

As I currently have my landline with BT and TV from SKY (I know, I know), given issue above with landline:-

    2) Can someone suggest the best way I can consolidate my media options?

I feel stuck in a technological trap due to poor phone line.

    3) Can Sky or BT use my VM cable to my house as I can't find this information anywhere?

can you get 4G where you are ?

If so, say your leaving to try and get a discount
  • Thanks for the reply Andy.

According to service maps I should, but I don't have a 4G mobile to find out. My 3G phone only occasionally flashes 3G though, so it probably won't be reliable enough. Currently averaging about 40 Mb with VM, so reluctant to downgrade.

Job ended recently and obviously I can't continue paying three different companies for media services unless circumstances change. Even then, I still need to consolidate services.
  • Also, I don't have a TV signal (TV aerial fell off roof some time ago), so I don't have access to Freeview.

Definitely not clint. VM's cabling is for their use only ... it's a stand alone system.

    Thanks, that's what I thought.

Anyone have any other suggestions or advice please?

I assume fibre is not available from Sky or BT?

If not then you could transfer your BT phone number to Virgin as BB with Line rental via Virgin is £34.49. If you're already paying Virgin £33.29 ( that's not going to be changed in the price rises ) plus £17.99 with BT then that's £51.28.

Sky TV could be cancelled and you could take your TV with Virgin - may or may not be cheaper but it depends on what you watch. You could stay with Sky for TV and have LR/BB with Virgin - many do just that.

If you're out of contract with Sky for TV, phone up and cancel. Once in the cancellation period you will probably get a phone back offering you a discount on your TV package. Many have 50% off deals and more. Even if it actually gets cancelled and switched off with no offer, a quick phone call to Sky will probably get you that offer and instantly switched back on.

I got a letter today telling me my 50mb is getting a price increase of £3.49 a month from February, on a £17.50 tariff that's a 20% increase, I also have line rental with them, I thought the price increases affected people with just broadband?

The BB only customer increase was the increase a few months ago!

Is there anyway I can see what my increase will be (e.g online)? I want to know asap.

Don't know if you can see it on your online account but the price increases will be:
Virgin Media confirmed that customers subscribed to one of its bundles will see their bills become more expensive from 1 February 2016. Big Connection and Big Easy bundles will increase by £3.49, and all other Big Bundles (Big Bang, Big Kahuna, Big Daddy) will see a £3.99 increase, a cost which includes a £1 line rental increase.

Juat rang Virgin and got £45 credited to my account to cover the increases.
