  • Went ahead and made an OP of £54.50. :) £50 from my allowance and £4.50 from reducing my PAYG phone plan for November (I had a £12 plan for the internet allowance but I'm hardly using it - will see if the £7.50 plan does the trick).

Probably should have put it aside for house stuff savings, but too late now. :D Should definitely get into the 164k range at the weekend!
  • Are you a horsey person?

Hello! Yes, though not active at the moment. :( Used to have OTTBs when I lived in the US, though, and did the equivalent of BE90 eventing - would like to get back into it someday, though in just 5 years of not riding my fitness level/joints have all gone downhill. I do keep eyeing the ex-racehorse sale listings (when I'm not drooling over ISHs and WB crosses - TBs will always be my favourite though). Hoping to be able to get back into horses once we're MF (and/or living somewhere more rural) - sadly I can't drive (poor vision) so getting to barns is a challenge.

We give the dogs kongs as their "you are alone in the house" consolation prize (though they seem far more interested in them than our company, as evidenced by the moping when we work from home!). We put some peanut butter (trying to cut down on the amount as they're both getting a bit pudgy) and freeze when we plan ahead and don't when we forget. :p Seems to work pretty well, though.
  • Bit of a faff with tomorrow's solar installation. :( We were under the impression that the scaffolding that was erected today 1) would only be on our property 2) would only be up for a few days. 1) It extends into one neighbour's driveway/entrance by about 3 feet and potentially into the other neighbour by about 3 inches (not quite sure where the property line is). Had to apologise profusely to said neighbours this evening. 2) Scaffolder installers apparently told neighbours that it would be up for 2 weeks (!) which is not acceptable to us (or the neighbours!).

On the plus side, phoned up the solar company just now (at 9pm) and got someone on the phone. She didn't know very much about the plan (could only see vague notes in the system), but at least someone was available to look into things, and the person in charge of scaffold installations/management is meant to call me back first thing tomorrow morning.

So in theory, solar install will still happen tomorrow, and ideally the scaffold itself will be gone within a week. Will have to buy wine (or something - fruit? chocolates?) as a peace offering for the neighbours.

This is a kong - it's hollow inside so you can fill it with treats/food/etc. They come in various sizes but they're about 4-6" tall. We use peanut butter, which our dogs love. It only lasts them 30 minutes or so (bit longer when frozen, I imagine), but it means they're excited/eager for us to leave the house. ;)
  • £10.65 from P@nelbase off to the mortgage. :)

DH reports that the solar installers have arrived and are getting to work. :D
  • We soak dry food and fill kongs with that.
Ha ha I am eyeing up IDs at the moment - need to give myself a talking to about what I can cope with though. I am just an aged pony clubber who never grew up.
You sound like a proper horsewoman.

That's a thought - we already soak the greyhound's food, so it'd be easy enough to fill his with soaked food. Does it not fall out, though? (I suppose that's the point :p but they get put in our bedroom when we're out and the greyhound takes over our bed so I'd rather he not spill wet food everywhere!)

IDs are gorgeous - I think they can be very mild-mannered as well. I like a bit of TB blood in there as I'm lazy and don't want to spend my entire ride kicking. ;) At the moment my ideal non-full-TB would be a 15.3-16.1-or-thereabouts TB/Connemara cross because they look like loads of fun. Found one on H&H the other day, lucky for me he's up in Scotland somewhere so out of reach for temptation. (Event horses are so cheap here, though! At least for my needs, anyway - anything going BE100/Novice is at least $30-40k in the US, whereas here I've seen loads for £5-10k. Must...resist....! We've just spent our "hey, we could afford to buy a pony!" money on solar panels, so at least that's something...)
  • Just popping in to say hello and subscribe and say thank you for the posts on my diary.. I can'd add to any horsey chat, but your plan and long terms goals are great.. we are down the south west and undertook a massive lifestyle change, mainly financial to do it (best thing we ever did)

Wales is a beautiful part of the country and some awesome properties there.

Hope the solar install is progressing and the neighbours are still talking to you!
