Attenuation of your head is significant, but you have to think about which has the most water (which is the major source of the attenuation) - is it:
    1. Your brain.
    2. 5km of foggy air.
Yet mobiles still work in fog.

Edit: Doesn't matter how many it can see - you only register with one.

I was actually thinking of the radiation from the handset rather than the base station, I assumed the power next to your head from that must be far more significant than the basestation. I'm pretty sure the handset radiation will mostly not penetrate the skull although I'm thinking it must be because it heats up your face and muscles and loses it's energy there. I'm not sure how big attentuation loses to water at mobile frequencies I was using attenuation to mean dropping off in energy in general.... their definitely different wavelength (longer?) to microwaves so not very good at heating water in to start with. There's somewhere odd in Chile (ATACAMA) dessert like and high they put microwave telescopes to avoid the foggy air issue for astronomy. I'm clearly not a communications engineer..... I should go and actually find out

Hellooo Mr Lenny, how are you this evening?

Bunny - oooh, stainless steel - get you! :D I am beating Stu at Singstar btw - we've managed to acquire rock ballads, 80s, popworld and legends, so I am all ready for our next soiree!

BB & Zed - your conversation really does appeal to my inner geek, but can I interest you in a rather nice glass of red wine and a 'legendary divas' medley? :)

Did I miss anyone that is still here?

Snaggles, something strange happened to me at work today.............on the table in the staff room were jaffa cakes to share........and I didn't have one.

Do you think I need to go and seek help?

    OMG Hypno....are you okay???

I think you should ring the doctors in the morning, just to make sure. Or maybe nip down to A&E now - you don't want to take any chances.

(I haven't had any today either...shhh, don't tell anyone....they're part of my identity!)

    Glass of red hun? :D

    Hi Elli :hello:

    I love science me. :D

But I am onto my second glass of wine (what a lush eh?) and it was over my head too! Although most things are, if truth be told. :)

One glass of red is good for you though - and it's one of your five-a-day. ;)
