Yes, it was conditional on locking in to the line rental for 12 months.

They strongly hinted that in 12 months they would probably re-extend the offer.

Ah right - it's really a retentions deal to stop you cancelling everything.
For the avoidance of doubt, I did cancel TV. So, I'm paying £16.40 for line, unlimited BB and sky plus. (£17.40 from Jan.) For that deal, I'm happy to stay with them.

The offer discussed above is new.

After ignoring an email offering 50% off plus £50 credit (which I have since taken) I got an email making the offer and, today, a letter offering the same.

Obviously I imagine the SkyPlus record thing will go.
Yes and encrypted recordings will be lost. No playback.

As far as I know, everything will still be there, and if you were to subscribe again with the £10 plus subscription, they'll play. This subscription enables playing and recording everything. This applies to encrypted and unencrypted content... I think. But I'm not testing it!

When I downgraded from Variety to Original, I asked if, any recordings already made from Variety only channels would be available and was told that only recordings at your subscription level can be accessed.

This would mean that anyone going for the free broadband and use of + facilities on their box, would only be able to access old recordings from the free to view channels.

I've bought a couple of Sky HD boxes from sellers who had cancelled their Sky contract, in both cases their recorded content left on was playable.

Yes, that's what I was told would happen with the free Sky Plus deal.

What channels - just BBC (unencrypted) ones?
What type of card was in the box? An expired subscription card?

No cards as I had my own, one was a sky + and the other was a Sky freesat card which I bought myself. I already had a Sky supplied HD box with multiroom so the upgrade for one of the eBay boxes was included in my Sky package, the other eBay HD box just has the Sky freesat card in so doesn't record or have the extra Sky programmes.
