Hi all
My friend pays about £28 for a sky package and has been with them since 2011. She wants to cancel. I know her TV has an inbuilt Freeview facility - but what happens with the dish, will it still give her a signal with all free/freeview channels without her doing anything else? Obviously I imagine the SkyPlus record thing will go.

She would receive Freesat from Sky, not Freeview. Slightly different channels. Freeview needs an aerial.
As you say all recording, live pause etc will stop.0 -
No, a sat dish cannot provide freeview, freeview can only be received via a TV aerial.
When you cancel your Sky stb will however still show all the free channels from Sky.0 -
...if she just removes the viewing card, she will see what she is left with via the Sky box.0

Taking the card out of the Sky box will give a very good indication of what you get when you stop the subscription. But you should keep the card in, as I think there are actually a few channels that it gets you, even without a subscription. Used to be called freesatfromsky but I think they might have stopped it.
You can get rid of the Sky box and buy a Freesat box, which you can have in HD, with recording and catch up (look for a 'freetime' model for good catchup features), which will plug in exactly where you had the Sky box. Satellite dish doesn't need to be moved or anything.0 -

Does her TV have. Freeview facility, which most TVs less than about 8 years old will have? Or does her TV have Freesat?
My TV has Freesat and you connect one of the cables from the LNB to the TV to get the programmes. Depends on make of TV what programmes, but should be all of those that would be available via the Sky box without a subscription.0 -
If you have a Sky phone line, they give you free Sky Plus (and free broadband), which means your Sky Box will still record and play any Freesat channels. Or you can pay £10 per month for this, but it would be cheaper to buy a PVR.koru0

Free BB as in BB Lite, yes. Very limited with only 2gb download allowance.
However I've never heard of them giving you free Sky Plus. I cancelled my multiroom sub. It still worked for Freesat channels but it did not record. I still had BB/LR and main sub.
Are you sure you've got this correct as I've never heard anyone saying that?0 -

Perhaps they won't offer it to everyone, though I can't see why they would want to single me out, unless they hope I'll resubscribe to TV.koru0 -
Broadband Unlimited. And yes, I'm sure about the free Sky Plus. I cancelled my TV last night and was going to cancel my phone line until they offered free unlimited broadband and free Sky Plus. It was a very clear conversation and I'm in no doubt whatsoever.
Ah right - it's really a retentions deal to stop you cancelling everything. The free BB is the current offer for someone new signing up so that's not surprising if you've agreed to a new 12 months contract for LR/BB.
It will depend on who you speak to I suspect. It will be interesting to see if it actually happens.0
