Burger king KFC and MCD charge 5p for the privalage of a bag and have done so since the bag charge was introduced in Wales so if they charge here they will charge on the other side of the bridge

    McDonald's paper bag charge
Why was I charged 5p for a bag in Wales?

M4rt1n...I found this on the BBC website this morning which suggests whilst you are charged in Wales for paper bags in the likes of McD you might not be charged for the same bags in England as they fall into an exemption ....however over time and given the retailers it possible that it will be bought into line I guess....

    Exemptions
The price hike affects only retailers with 250 or more employees, and unlike schemes in other parts of the UK, paper bags are exempt from a charge.

I dont donate and leave the bags on the doorstep for collection as I have seen them being taken by others rather than the charity.
And I refuse to call them charity bags, the vast majority of them are from limited companies that give a percentage to the charity. Read the bags, I was disgusted that they use the charity name when they give them so little.
Most I get proudly brag they give £100 ish per tonne collected.
A tonne is a lot of clothing.
After the collector has had his/her pick, your clothing goes to sorting where any thing decent goes for sale.
    The rest ?

The new rules are different in England, the thinking is we have made them too complex....

you can blame the Welsh Assembly for the 5p charge on your McD's bag!

The BBC has reported that the plan for bio degradable bag exemption has been dropped so I think it looks like you will get charged let's not forget they don't give a toss about the environment

Its another tax as for the carp about giving it to charity most charities Are set up to benefit the fat cats at the top on six figure + salaries As a very small percentage of the money raised filters down to benefit the people it was collected for it the first place
