I've never had the pleasure of meeting the lovely tweets. It's me and my oldest and dearest friend. We grew up in adjoining houses but she now lives a day's drive away0 -

Won in a competition?? Although people traditionally like to think they are getting a bargain, so probably get a better response saying they fell off the back of a lorry.

The typical mark up on a howdens is 80% nowadays or at least thats about what discount I can secure with "my man"....actually some of the kitchens are very good...Its just that as soon as you mention the word rental most howdens sales people I've dealt with direct you to what I call the "student basic range" which is very easy on the eye but not the most durable....
...and actually thinking about it in one of our flats we have had the mid price burford fitted which is lasting very well....
There's nothing wrong with most of Howdens kitchens - except for the very basic ones. I briefly worked for MFI & was a kitchen planner, which is why I might know some Howdens employees. My brother also worked for them before he set up on his own, taking their best fitters/tradesmen + adding extra excellent ones. Nowt wrong with their Schreiber range kitchens, which is basically what Howdens sell - they were all part of the same company.
DIY kitchens seem to have a good reputation & their prices are easily available. Far more choice than Howdens too. I'm not going to pay for a top of the range German kitchen in my 80's semi BUT am going to have all the little accessories that make a normal kitchen into a really good use-able one.
80% markup is ridiculous & then there are sales that bring them down etc. etc.0
