I have always prided myself on my memory, I had a brilliant memory (short term eidetic memory - passed my chemistry O level purely due to taking the pee out of the revision book minutes before we went in). So when at my PIP assessment she said she was going to check my memory I boasted of it.

    I failed it miserably.

I was mortified, more because my pride was hurt than anything else. I still feel so ashamed of failing it even now, she was probably thinking what a silly deluded person I was. I have found this is getting more common with me now, not sure if it is because of my brain fogs or because of something I really don't want to think about but by goodness is it frustrating.

That said, I can remember my mobile number, the 16 digit code on my debit card...heck, anything with numbers (I could recite all the figures from todays budget to my mum after only glancing at the news...5 hours after I skim read it). Normal words now? Forget it.

Anyway, good mood tonight, eldest is coming home from uni tomorrow. Even the thought of his horrible mess that he brings isn't getting me down...my boy will be home and this time next week, middle son will be home too and my little family will be under one roof again for a short time.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I shouldn't worry, SingleSue. Memory stuff does change over time. Also, you were probably using your memory far, far more,at school, than you do now, so it may just be lack of use.

Plus there was the tension of being under scrutiny, and I don't know about you, but if I am under a degree of 'stress', I always do worse than if I am perfectly relaxed.

Then again, my ability to remember is heavily dependent on what mood I'm in, how much I've had to eat, and how well I'm concentrating!

    So many variables!

I think there are some online memory exercises you can do......relaxed at home, you might get a better picture of your current memory status, and it just might need exercising a bit!

Also, when I was doing tests for a local university research project, I found that I did much better in ones I found interesting, than in ones that were a bit boring. If the session went on a bit too long, I'd start to flag, and that affected performance, too.
One test I found quite difficult, (although I was still above average for my age),was remembering a route through a maze. If you got it wrong, you had to keep repeating it until you got it right, and I found that got a bit boring, not to mention demoralising! If I was above average, God knows how many attempts the below average people took! :rotfl:

    Where is all my energy?
I think it might be the 400 calories or less a day plus hormones that has stolen it
  • Good morning all,

Thank you for the kind welcomes, I'd very much like to come out and chat if you like. (its really scary for me to meet new people but I'm taking advantage of my meds making me feel brave at the moment).

I love your way of penguining - it makes me feel like here is a really safe place for me to be and to socialize when the Voice tells me I'm not worth anyone's company. I've got PTSD and anxiety coupled with depression which can be a right barrel of laughs on time as you all know.

Morning Tealover - how are you feeling today? Do things look different today?

Hi FaerieLight - what's the latest with your parcel issue?

Howdy WaS - I forget my name all the time - took me ages to remember that I'd changed my name when I got married, and I never know how old I am either. You're definitely not alone there.

Good morning to the rest of you too. I'm still learning names at the moment and getting to know what's happening in your worlds, so forgive me if I haven't said hi by name yet. I will I promise.

Its a beautiful day where I am at the moment, but our blinds are shut :( I'll get up and open them soon I think. A cup of coffee beckons now I think. I'm desperately needing a custard slice (one of my meds mimics pregnancy hormones so I get cravings something chronic - this time its custard slice, last time it was toast and marmite lol), I need to be strong and stay away from the shop though - I've had one every day so far and they come in two's. Rationing out custard slices is so hard.

Love and hugs (or cwtches) to all that need/want one.

Hi HappilyMarried and well done for being brave and joining in with chatting, hopefully we can drown out the Voice when you need us to.

Seeing as custard slices come in packs of two I'm very impressed that you've only had one a day, I don't think I'd be able to show that kind of restraint and I'm not pregnant or on meds...
