Aberdeen is a lovely place. I really enjoyed my time up there. :) How does your name relate to it!

Calley, where did you say you got your Turkish yoghurt from? I've heard of Greek yoghurt but never Turkish, but think I would like it as I like thick yoghurt.
    Glad you liked I here.

I was wondering about Torry Quine, too, so I just googled it.

Torry is a part of Aberdeen, formerly a village, and Quine is a derivative of queen, used as a friendly term for women, like 'hen' in other parts of Scotland, or I suppose, 'pet' in Newcastle.

    Hopefully that's correct, Torry?
    You've got it.
Ah right, I just always assumed Torrys name was Victoria or something!

Not even close. My name is a Scottish one.!

I think Torry Quine would make a really nice real name! :)

Miss Torry Quine, of the Aberdeenshire Quines!

Funny about your sleep. I had a night of very fitful sleep. I awoke at 11pm in a very strange dream, which wasn't particularly upsetting while I was dreaming it, but made me feel quite anxious when I awoke!

Actually that was going to be my brother's name but when he was born my parents changed their minds. :rotfl:

There are lots of Scottish names that have got into the mainstream British name book now.

Years ago, there was a game show on the Teev* with a presenter called Isla St. Clair. It was the first time I'd heard the name Isla and I thought it was lovely!

Haven't posted for a few days so I'm backdating but huuuuuuuge hugs for Melly. Such a brave lady for sharing that. I'm glad you have this safe place to help you. xxx

Tea, I'm raging on your behalf! Glad that your parents have made a statement and now know how serious this all is!

Georgie, WW was quoting a term I'd used in the previous post. I tend to think of it as a case of owning the term - so some words are viewed differently depending on whether you're in that group or not. Like geek, nerd, etc.

    I know :)

It just always reminds me of when of when I was at college, and there was this guy who very obviously had learning difficulties and metal health problems. Nearly everyone thought it was hilarious to take the pee out of him and call him a weirdo. :( Me and my BF were two of the people who had time for him, took an interest in him and helped him.

That's why I find any term like that used on this thread to be offensive as IMO all it serves to do is to segregate people with mental health problems and not include it as any other illness.

I know no harm was meant in this instance though :) Just ignore me and stick me in a corner with some ibroprofen :p

I think a lot of it depends on context. My initial post was referring to the pof clientele. Having read a lot of profiles lately I think weirdo really sums it up! Not a judgement on their mental health to any extent.

I know. I wasn't meaning what you said in relation to POF, and yes, a lot is down to context.

Anyhow, don't want to create any thread disharmony (or anymore!)....Mars Bar cake anyone? :)
