  • Big big hugs (((HBS))) Totally understandable to feel like that. When things like that happen it totally shakes you and makes you worry even more about those around you.

Big hugs HBS xxx Please don't beat yourself up about not dealing with things well. There's no perfect way to deal with bad news and it's very early days, and has clearly provoked a lot of other worries too.

That sounds a bit garbled, sorry. Thinking of you xx

HBS even when we think we are prepared we not

    Don't beat yourself up

I missed the docs I didn't get up till 9.30!
  • Hugs HBS, it's natural to worry. A year ago my Dad was in hospital and I commented to someone that given their ages, I've now got to the point where I worry more about my parents than they worry about me.

Some good news for me, albeit with a sad cause, I got a cheque in the post containing a bequest from my late grandmother. Not a fortune, but enough for a short holiday. I'm thinking about Rome in April for a few days / week, depending on flight costs and what I can find on airbnb for a self-contained appartment. for one. April as it would be before the tourist season kicks off and an appartment so I can cook, as asking "avete un tavolo per uno?" at restaurants every night gets a bit depressing.

Also have a massive work related stress, but will come back to that one later.

My husband and son went to see the new Star Wars film and agreed it was better than Episodes 1,2, and 3, but NOT better than the original episodes (4,5 and 6).

I read the plot online beforehand (because I would not be able to follow the plot otherwise :o), and decided I didn't want to bother going to the cinema to see it , as I'm not too keen on the cinema.

    I'll get the DVD :)

Dare I admit to never watching any of the Star Wars films? Is this the point at which I get drummed out in disgrace? In my defence, I do Star Trek.
I watched the first film at the cinema when it was first released. Have had two or three of the others on the TV but found I quickly got bored, especially when all the battley bits started. Kept reaching for the crossword.

It may not sound like what you want, but I can thoroughly recommend the Voyages Jules Verne city break in Rome called "In the Company of Angels"
You have the choice of a bog-standard hotel OR staying in a convent! The latter was great! It is close to the Vatican and has a marvellous view of the Dome of St Peters. I couldn't believe it! The rooms are fairly spartan but very modern and very clean, with ensuite facilities. The terms are bed and breakfast....the latter is also very basic, but the costs are cheap.
There is a monastery thing across the road which acts like a hotel, and guests at the convent can eat there for lunch or dinner at very reasonable prices.
There is no religious bias. They even let a heathen like me stay there!

    The transfer service was good.

There is an optional guided tour package which I found to be very good value. Three separate walking tours on separate days......Ancient Rome, The Vatican, and Baroque Rome. So you get to see everything with a very good guide, and then you have the rest of the day to explore on your own.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this holiday, and loved staying at the convent. Wouldn't mind staying at the monastery hotel either! They can be booked independently of the travel firm. If you want details, let me know and I'll dig them out.

Hugs hbs. Sorry for your loss. I have the same worry about my parents as they are late 70s and early 80s. I'm sure I mentioned on here before that my aunt is ill and we've since found out that it's terminal. She's my mum's youngest sister so its even more worrying. Some things in life are entirely random, and I don't mean in the teenage use of the word. That being said I am the worst for worrying and overthinking so it's kind of do as i say, not as I do.

Boo for the reason for the bequest ono, but yay for the money. I know what you mean about the eating alone thing because that was tough when travelling. I liked to do my own thing so although I made friends in the hostels, I'd take off on my own for sightseeing. There were a couple of nights when I just at at McDonalds because I couldn't face the table for one pity looks. It's weird because it shouldn't be such a thing but some waiters make it really awkward.

I've seen the new Star Wars films and agree with your husband and son 7DW. I hated episodes 1-3. Don't even get me started on Jar Jar blydi Binks and endless discussion of trade routes and the dialogue was so bad. I like to pretend they don't exist, much as I have airbrushed that crystal skull Indianda Jones abomination and any Die Hard movie after Die Hard with a Vengeance out of my existence. I love the original Star Wars. Apparently during a costume fitting Harrison Ford scared the wardrobe lady because he forgot to put underwear on. :rotfl:

They said they'd call the agency on Christmas Eve or January. Yesterday was a Bank Holiday for some, so maybe today. Still worrying about whether to accept a job I haven't been offered. Maybe why I had a horrible nightmare which ended with me kicking a dog who looked just like DA dog to protect some children I was babysitting in my house from a scary intruder. I'd never kick a dog.

Well good luck either way - if that makes sense!
