Gemini - yes, have been on Ad's for years, but seriously wondering if I need to try and get some therapy as my worrying and negativity is making life impossible. Start date is 11th Jan.
Birdie - thanks you! So that train of thought is not totally irrational then?
Moo - Do you think I am just terrified of the challenge and change? I am constantly terrified of not knowing enough and the consequences of that in our industry. I don't really want to work in our industry anymore, but at the moment the only option I have.0 -
Flybaby you have been given good advice from JM . I confess I am one to trust my instincts - walks like a duck etc. I think the advice above is what I would follow and see what happens . Please do not view whatever the outcome is as " another failure " the only failure is the company not being open and honest
PollyIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.0 -
Pyx - I would normally agree but there's the rub - the final clause of the contract says that if I leave for any reason within a year, I am liable for their recruitment agency fees. I think this clause is totally unacceptable as it makes it impossible to just give it a go and see what happens.
Moo - no - doesn't add anything new to my skillset or knowledge base, but in theory I should be able to do it comfortably. I was seeking a job for money and because I thought it would be good for my depression as not working has not seemed to do anything for me. I am not an ambitious or career minded person, I just want to do a job, work hard and do it well and be stressed by normal things like deadlines and difficult customers and equipment break downs, people not filling the dishwasher etc, not by the company itself.0 -
Fly.......do you think that work will encroach on your study time?
If yes.......which is the more important.... The job or the study?
If you want to get out of the industry you're in, and the study is the means to do that, than I retract what I said in my last post .
So, the decision is not....take/don't take the job .... But.......
Get out of industry/ stay in industry.
If you want to get out at all costs, and the study is the means, then give the study priority.(I just lurve spiders!)

Fly
Being scared in our industry is good love it means you constantly strive and learn and you know this. I think the course has knocked your confidence as your used to picking things up quickly and there are bits of this you can't.
I know my response is very coloured by recent experience but your gut is sound if it's telling you there are problems then I'd listen to it.0 -
thanks polly - I had not thought of it that way. Maybe I am not so wrong to expect a "reasonable" contract or at least one that reflects what was discussed at interview and all the subsequent interactions I've had with them.0

I also wonder if this works.......
'I could do 3 9 hour days if one of those days I was working from home'.
Does this work for you? - Fly, I mean, does this work for YOU?
You also need to know what the bloody recruitment company fees ARE! When I have used companies in the distant past, the fees were less if the person stayed less than a year. They can't expect you to agree to a blank cheque!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Fly. I have some good recruit contacts that cover the UK.
I am going to email ya their details.
You gave my real name have a look for me on LinkedIn x0 -
Pyx - you make a good point...thank you, yes I need to reconsider why I am studying in the first place. yes, I would like to get out of the Industry and the study was supposed to be a means to that and so is very important, but it is not going very well and so I may have made a mistake thinking I could do it.
Moo - you are right - the Uni thing has totally knocked me for six and I am so disappointed with the experience right now and you are right, I am used to picking up academic stuff quickly and am feeling very stupid right now.0
