I am just back from a bit of a dire night out. Was all set for a live band to find out on arrival there was 11/2 hours worth of film followed by a Q&A by which time I'd lost the will to live. Not helped by my friend going to the loo and not coming back for nearly 2 hours because she'd !!!!!!ed off to another bar with some people she met outside the door.
The best part of the night was the bag of chips on the way home.

MU, I am proud of you. Get over to the Squish Cupboard for a Pat On the Back.

Elsien, glad you got the chips on the way back and not the way there then.

ETA: pyxis, would it be an idea to add the Squish Cupboard to the etiquette?

He also told me that he wouldn't give me any praise when I did anything good because the police wouldn't pull me over to compliment me on my driving.

That could explain why the advanced instructor only ever told me what I was doing wrongly, which was one of the reasons I got so demoralised with it. I had wondered if it was policy not to praise, so as not to give drivers false security, but I found it totally counter-productive. I needed reassurance that the things I was doing correctly were correct, just as much as being told about things that could be improved. It demonstrated to me that only ever concentrating on the negative aspects of a performance will not produce improvements.

Went and bought a Christmas tree today. It was so expensive and I think it may be too big for my tiny house but it was the nicest in the shop. It's 7ft tall because I suck at converting metric to imperial :rotfl:
I use a very easy way of converting metric to imperial.
Just multiply the centimetres by 4 to give inches.
You do have to use a bit of common sense about where you then put the decimal point, but otherwise, it works very well.

For example, 32cm times by 4 equals 128. Using a bit of common sense, the decimal point would go 12.8, so the answer is 12.8 inches, or 12 and three-quarter-ish inches.

To convert imperial to metric, you change feet to inches and divide by four and use the same common sense thing.
So a 7ft tree would be......
7ft is 84", which divided by 4 equals 21 but common sense tells you to add a nought, so 7ft is 210 cms.

Leaving out the common sense thing, the equation would be:

    Converting y cms to ins:
    (y ÷ 10) x 4 = inches

    Converting z inches to cms:
    (z x 10) ÷ 4 = centimetres

Regarding the squish cupboard for the etiquette, what do people think?

Heh Pyxis. That's a useful technique but I cant do maths in my head. I had a calculator on my phone but for some reason I decided that 200cm was 6ft, even though I know it isn't - I think they must have had the display trees on a lower bit of shop floor because they didnt look all that much taller than me. Also I am dyscalculic so can't work out sizes very well. It wasn't until they brought out this utterly massive box that I thought 'oh crap' but I'd paid for it by then.

    Good luck melly x

Also trying to get through to my GP is a nightmare. Been trying solidly since 8 and just getting the busy signal. Wouldn't mind but I only had enough meds for this morning.

Its like trying to get through to ticketmaster.

How is being back at work welly?

To convert feet to meters, multiply by 0.3. So 2.1m. Houses built in the last century or so, possibly older back into the Victorian era, have 8ft / 2.4m ceilings, older houses, e.g. Regency period, tend to have higher ceilings at around 10' (which makes them expensive to heat).

Another way of looking at it for me is I'm 6' and if I stand on tiptoes I can just brush the 8' ceilings in my house, so that's an easy way for me to check if anything I want to buy will fit.

Anyway, your tree should fit for height, provided you can get it through doorways and around any corners!
