JM when I was a kid I'd do forward rolls onto my bed. Now though, if I tried that I'd fall off or crash into the wall or break my neck. I always wanted to be able to do a backflip but never could.

Aw, nice thing! I wrote to JL customer services to say how happy I was with how I was treated on Wednesday and how kind and considerate the staff were, they emailed me back thanking me and said they would pass my feedback on to the store.

The store manager has just emailed me and thanked me for praising the partners (oops I said staff!), he said that he rarely hears positive feedback as people often only write to complain and he would be sharing my email at the next staff meeting.

I made someone happy and now I am happy!

It's nice to give credit where it's due, and then you get that nice feeling back!
    Win-win! :)

I'm not feeling like praising the people I ordered a hifi from yesterday. I ticked for express delivery and the emailed confirmation said it would be today. So I cancelled an appointment and stayed in all day and guess what? No delivery. I tried phoning the helpline three times and each time got 'unprecedented demand, please call later' I emailed, but have had no reply.

Georgie, I bought the stuff off eBay mostly but have since found out that the pound shop or b&m sell make your own hamper kits that probably work out cheaper.
    .

I got one of those hamper kits from B&M, didn't come with a basket though (just the cellophane, label etc), and didn't have much shredded tissue paper either, but still not bad for 79p.

I might just use a cardboard box wrapped in Christmas Paper instead of buying a basket, will work out cheaper.

WaS glad to here you have Wasp back home with you and he is on the mend. You will have to watch him like a hawk probably...........why is it that when men have a cold, they are dying..........but when they are actually properly ill, they are fine and want to run a marathon?

So, this week I have learned something that I thought others might find interesting........... we had a lecture from the head of psychology this week. For us, it was the differences between human behaviour, perception and attitude in relation to implementing management ideas etc but as part of the lecture he talked about mental health and the use of CBT. I found it very interesting to be reminded that just because a person changes their attitude, that not does not necessarily result in a change in behaviour. e.g. I want to lose weight and diet ( attitude change) but then don't get very far with eating healthier etc ( no behaviour change)
The challenge is translating that attitude change into a behaviour change and the key golden bit of info is this.............you cannot change one single habit. All habits are inter-realted into habit webs so to speak. If you change just one thing, eating healthier say, but continue to do everything else the same as normal - human brain doesn't absorb the change and it lasts all of a few days before we are back at the chippy.
If you want to change a habit - you need to approach it as a habit web and actually, the habits you change do not have to be related to each other.
so, for example, if I wanted to eat healthier, I should change my route to work, do something different at lunchtime, wear a different style of outfit, plan a ne or different activity for evening. and then eat healthy. The human brain registers that we are doing "things" differently and you get yourself out of the "habit rut"...................... I thought this was really interesting and wondered why I had not come across this as part of CBT before.............
From a CBT perspective it is used to get a person used to "changes" before tackling the sensitive issues. SO if a persons issue was fear of dogs, you might have them do things they had never done before like ride a horse, swim with fish, hold a spider, birdwatching in a park, clean out guinea pigs etc so they are doing new things..... before approaching something like walking in a park where dogs are............. what you guys think? Intersting or not? WaS - can you shed any more light on this technique?

That's really interesting, Flybaby! It makes sense, though! It's ringing bells with me, but I haven't remembered why yet.

  • Ugh, sorry about the hifi, Pyxis!

That is very true Flybaby and it works particularly well with CBT for OCD. When I had treatment I had an awful lot of rituals. Before we tackled any individually we worked on me changes aspects of how I lived because everything in my life was so rigid. One of the things we changed was I would put lipstick on every day even if I wasn't going out. Another was that I walked in a different direction to the shops. Small little things but they got my brain used to the idea of change and taught me that it wasn't scary, therefore my constant rituals to keep everything the same every day were naturally questioned in my subconscious.

Once I got used to making small changes elsewhere in life then we started tackling the rituals themselves, but first of all I had to condition my brain that it was ok to do so.

You are totally correct, WaSp may drive me mad in 2 days straight! When he has a cold his sits silently in a heap in the corner, now he really is unwell he is up and down like a yoyo trying to do things, along with whining "Boreddddd!" from the bedroom frequently. Funny thing is, if he didn't have to lie down he would be sitting at his computer, instead he is sitting with a laptop. There is hardly any difference!
