Calley- here are some ideas how to make a difference. You could adopt a pet from a shelter - you can rescue cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, exotic pets etc. That will be company for you and you save two lives - the one you rescued and the one who gets to take his place at the shelter. On a similar theme you could keep your eyes open for hedgehogs. If you see any small ones at night, weigh them. If they weigh under 650g they won't make it through the winter. If you see them or any out during the day, take them home, pop them in a box with a hot water bottle (and space to move away from it), give some wet cat or dog food and water and phone a rescue.

You could donate blood if you meet the criteria and don't already do it. Every donation saves 3 people. Plus it takes 3000 calories to replace the blood they take and you get free tea and biscuits. I sadly can't anymore as the drugs I'm on reduce white blood cells but I always felt really good about it when I did.

I have adopted rabbits before. Had 2 in the past.

I am a bit squeamish about needles and did have a look the other week.

  • Hmm, I've completely run out of energy. I've just managed to shower and eat.

I'd love some extra get up and go. Or a nap. Yay, contradictions! I'm trying to gently potter about but it's quite hard atm

We have just had a near miss with Gitdog and next door's pumpkin which is handily sitting at nose level on their doorstep.

Ugh. Feeling really fed up. Tried to finish a DIY project and it went spectacularly wrong and now I have massive holes in my newly painted and finished wall.

Been there, done that, so you have my complete understanding about how annoying it is.

I was going to recount what I did when installing a TV bracket in the bedroom, but it's too cringeworthy (at least for me to think about).

It wouldn't involve having the drill on the wrong setting and drilling at least twice as many holes as needed, would it? If so, are you me?

All kicked off at elderly relatives house today. Relative and co - dependant son are now both being considered for sectioning. Trying to convince parent this might be a good thing as it may be the start of working out what's really going on with them. She's worried sick, though.

    Calley, I'm puzzled.

If you want your husband to have the house in thirteen years time, why do you need it put into your name now, buying him out to the tune of 40k AND incurring a CGT charge?

Why not just leave it in his name and save a heap of money all round?

    Pyxis,

Husband is getting a lump sum at retirement from me to pay him out for his equity in the house. As he did not want the hassle of the house. And it was agreed for it to be my home in my name.

He did not want me to take out a mortgage to pay him a lump sum so I have 12 years to save up £40K!!!!

The longer we leave it in his name the more he will have to pay in capital gains tax :( well we will pay it between us.

I did not even think about it. We have been so relaxed about and in no rush to sort things out.

I should have been put on the mortgage at the start but when we moved I was not earning so we thought it best not to put me on. And being married I would be entitled to a starting value of 50% of the value of the house anyway so was never worried about it all.
