To be honest its not completely unimaginable that there could be a correction in London in the very near future, the market there faces a few more headwinds than it has in recent years, you will probably see falling equity inflows from overseas (its not unimaginable that you could even see a reversal in equity flows there), the change to stampduty has already hit prime central London to an extent, and the changes in how BTLs will be treated should have some impact on demand.

The problem for those waiting for a crash rather than a correction is that demand to actually live in London remains extremely strong and interest rates are staying at ludicrously low levels for the forseeable future, boosting affordability for those who have enough equity to buy.

The biggest problem the crash fanatics have is that we have a government that very clearly will be willing to intervene to support the housing market if there are any signs of significant weakness coming through, and they still have a lot of tools at their disposal to do so.

People over on HPC are pleased that the stock market is falling and we have some recessionary indicators. But I'm not sure how this actually helps right now because gilt yields are heading down as money flows to safety of bonds. So mortgage rates will remain suppressed for some time. I can only really see a big correction in London when mortgage rates rise significantly.

  • The Telegraph has been bearish about house prices for a while so no news there. That "article" is really poor for a supposedly "quality" newspaper though; just a cobbled together Buzzfeed rip-off list of random rants. What have house prices got to do with jobs in STEM subjects?

I could give you a genuinely honest answer to that statement, but you would only get abusive.

P.S I do not think you should even consider selling your family home, how stupid would that be. I am not on you side with anything you say on here, but I promise I will back you up against anyone suggesting that you should.

    Who was it?

The absence of self-awareness in that post is truly comical.

Someone goes onto HPC, a site for people in denial about having been completely wrong for 14 years, and insists that other people have "fall[en] in love with a hand".

    Which people?

Name them, who has been in denial for 14 years.

Did the 100'000's of member join on the first day and stayed ever since?

I personally think many of those joining back then probably would have changed their mind since then.
