    SAVE OUR AUSSIE ICON!
    The Great Australian Ugg Boot!

Many of you will have read recently that an American company (Deckers Outdoor Corporation [Deckers] trading as Ugg Holdings, Inc. in America), who use the label UGG Australia, are having their lawyers send out threatening letters to most if not all manufacturers and retailers selling ugg boots. In essence, Deckers claim to own the trademark "ugg" which has been trademarked in the US and ugh and ugh-boots which they purchased as trademarks here in Australia. However, when the first trademark was going through in the US, when asked by the USA federal trademark office's examiner, Susan Heller, on March the 7th 1986 "What is the significance of the term ugg?", she was told under oath that "There is no significance of the term UGG in the relevant trade or industry." This is despite the fact that many years prior; ugg, ug, and ugh were all generic terms for sheepskin boots and were so much a part of popular culture, they were referenced in Australian dictionaries.

    Update:
The battle to keep the Australian ugg boot term generic and descriptive is still raging. Various actions are being heard in both Australia and the United States. Significant and important evidence has been found but we know more evidence (newspaper and magazine ads, books, tv ads, radio transcripts, brochures, etc.) - particularly before 1970 - is out there. If you have or are aware of such evidence (or have worked in the ugg boot industry before 1970) please contact us.
Just remember, the label "UGG Australia" with a rising sun is NOT Australian.

  • Hi all,

This is my first time on this forum but I was also stung in this scam (luckily I paid on my credit card so got my money back). Having since got my Uggs from the very reputable and reliable Uggs Direct, I've made it a bit of a mission to keep tabs on this site and it would seem that they may have resurfaced as Uggaffair.com. It's exactly the same set up, with the xren email, no contact for customer services, no company address. It's basically pretty much the same site but a bit more glitzy.

I could be completely wrong but maybe those of you who were stung on this site might want to take a look and see what you think?? Just wouldn't want anyone else to get caught out on this.
  •  PEOPLE OF THE UK. DO NOT BUY UGG BOOTS FROM THE WEBSITE UGGBOOTSRUS.COM MY FIANCEE READ MANY REPORTS ON THIS VERY SIGHT SINGING THERE PRAISES. SO SHE ORDERED 3 PAIRS AT A COST OF 196 POUNDS STERLING ON THE 4TH DECEMBER 2007. ITS NOW THE 4TH APRIL 2008 & WE ARE STILL WAITING ON THEM! THEY SAY THE BOOTS WERE SENT, WHEN XMAS CAME & WENT, AS THEY WERE FOR A XMAS GIFT WE ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER OUR MONEY. UGGBOOTSRUS SAY MAYBE THE BOOTS ARE RETURNING TO THEM VIA BOAT!!! SO MAY TAKE UP TO 3 MONTHS TO GET BACK TO AUSTRALIA? YEAH RIGHT!
BASICALLY THEY STILL HAVE OUR 196 POUNDS & WE HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT. FOOLISHLY MY BELOVED USED A DEBIT CARD SO HAS NO WAY OF RECOVERING THE FUNDS & AS SHE'S TOO NICE TO MENTION TO HER 2 FRIENDS WHO PIGGYBACKED OUR ORDER THAT WE ARE OUT OF POCKET, I HAVE TO TAKE THE HIT! NOT HAPPY, BUT JUST BE AWARE THAT ALL IN THE UGGBOOTSRUS GARDEN IS DEFINATELY NOT ROSIE.
IF THIS POST SAVES 1 PERSON FROM BEING SCAMMED OUT OF MONEY BY THESE PEOPLE THEN I WILL TAKE SOME SMALL COMFORT IN THAT AT LEAST. IF THEY EVER DO PAY UP, OR SEND REPLACEMENTS, I WILL RE-POST BUT DONT EXPECT THEY WILL, THEY GOT TEIR MONEY RIGHT? WHAT DO THEY CARE?

I would have been suspicious of three pairs of boots for that price when they are usually £150-£170 a pair..

    HI

Has anyone else brought the SNUG UGG australia ugg boots from http://www.snugaustraliauggboots.com.au/

I brought some recently - at frist I thought they were too small they definatey come up smaller than my actual uGg's.
Also I was a bit annoyed - I know its a minor detail but the labels is now brown on the back not white as shown on there website.

BUT really just wondering if mine are FAULTY - as they have like an indentation on the front and back of the sole in the rubber! Is anyone elses like this is it normal???? As I dont think it looks very good!

I have contacted snug and they asked me to send picture so I have but they are saying they cant tell from the pictures - and that I need to send them back to australia! If they find a fault they will refund me the postage and send me another pair - if there is no fault they just send me them back ( and I have paid not only for the boots but postage to and from australia and customs charges!!!)

Please if anyone has a pair can you advise if this is normal.

Also - if you are considering buying a pair and you have had uGg Australia before - you may well be disappointed with SNUG as I dont think they are as nice as uGg Australia _ but may be mine are faulty! Bit annoying I cant speak to anyone at SNUG to clarify! No phone number!

    Thanks

I bought my (adult -27)daughter some Uggs for Christmas 2007 - I got them from the UK section of the Ugg Australia website and paid £140 plus postage. She wore them a lot but not for copious walking!! but in early Feb2008 she noticed a tiny hole where her big toe was  .

This happened to both me & my sister.

We both have short Uggs (bought them around the same time) and the exact same thing has happened, in practically the same area on the right Boot!

Seems like Deckers quality control should be looking into reinforcing the front of their Boots more adequately. (I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't cost £140! ).

God knows how many other people this has happened to.

Have you contacted the seller? - I did at least get a replacement pair after persevering but I dread the same thing happening to the new ones! She carried on wearing the “old” ones but the hole is now much bigger and she’ll soon have to stop.

I bought them from a US website a few months ago & doubt they'd do anything about it now, to be honest.

The website uggs-boots is now down for maintenance but I ordered apparent Ugg Australia boots from there several days ago, I suspected the website was dodgy so sent an email trying to cancel the order, no-one has replied since the email was sent and when I try to visit the website a standard maintence message now is being shown - the boots were also removed from the website the day after I ordered them (in every single size and colour)

I noticed from previous posts from them on here that they included their telephone number which is '08453886208' this number doesn't work. I do happen to have their address in an invoice email although this won't do me much good.

    Any advice?

I will admit to having an interest in this.

I work for Celtic Sheepskin who use www.ugg-boots.co.uk as one of our web addresses (we used to own the Ugg trade mark within the UK). We are not uggs-boots.co.uk and have no affiliation with them. We are however, receiving a large number of calls from members of public who are trying to contact them.

Hopefully you paid using a credit card (I think this includes Visa Debit) for this order. If so, contact your card issuer and explain the situation. You are within your rights to cancel the order within (at least) 7 days. If you did not then you may have more difficulty getting your money back.

Although this information has been posted already it may help in you getting your money back (this information is freely available on the net):

Searching for the address on google also gives a beauty salon / product sales at the same address, however, none of the 3 telephone numbers I could find actually work.

There is only one Juan Portos on Facebook. (I'll let you search for that personally!)
