Vanquis recurring payment

So about the begining of the year I missed one payment to Vanquis, they called me and they set up a recurring payment which was fine. But until about June I stopped useing my nationwide account as I got a Tesco bank account. I did not do all this switch account thing but to my amazment I have just noticed that Vanquis are taking money from my Tesco bank! Are they a loud to do this?

There are only two possibilities - you either did use a switching service or you have amended the payment details yourself. Unless Vanquis were advised one way or another they would not even be aware of your new account details.
  • Ahh ok well i knew i had to make payments still so I had to change my card online to make a payment manually. Still I did not know they could do this.

By recurring payment I assume you mean a direct debit from your Nationwide account.
No they are not allowed to just start taking money from your new Tesco bank without without a direct being set up. Suggest you contact Tesco Bank and ask them where the direct debit instruction came from? As another person has suggested, are you sure you did not use some form of switching service or authorise transfer of direct debits when you opened the new account?

It sounds like when you rang to make a manual payment and changed your card details, this was then used for all payments going forward. If you had done a switch you would be glad they did this, rather than allow a missed payment to happen and get reported to your CR. Sounds like a common sense approach from Vanquis.

You can cancel a CPA (Continuous Payment Authority) anytime by contacting the company or the bank.

Not necessarily. I can be a debit card CPA.

Unless a DD is switched as a result of the switching process, they don't even know the new account details to set up a new DD.
  • Thanks for your replies, it was a CPA with nationwide. I then changed banks not using the switching service there was no need too, then when I had to pay my balance off on evanquis I had to change my card details to pay, and even on the statement it comes up as debit card transaction not a DD.
