When you call, tell them that you have not had your upgrade in March as advertised on their website and would like to have it done now.

That's true, they always offer incentives to stay on once you show an interest in leaving. The exact same thing happened to my brother just before he moved from Pipex to UK Online. Bluff them for a discount, but beware they will try to offer you false promises of updating their services up to the same spec, at some open ended future date. This is bull on their part just to keep you hooked, if it's money it's one thing, but empty promises are just that, lies.

In theory it should be upgraded in July (like it was supposed to be done in March) but why wait three months when it could be done now for a free phone call ? - the price will be the same for a speedier service.

Just looking through the UK Online site and they currently run a "recommend a friend" scheme with a free months billing for both of you. This seems only limited to the amount of friends and family you have and can arm twist. I'm going to get my brother to recommend me.

Just be aware that if you upgrade you are starting a new 12 month contract from scratch even if you have been with BT for 11 months

I upgraded to the 2mb about 2 months ago FOC. I told them iwas leaving as new customers were getting a free modem/router and a 2mb connectio for the same price as i was paying for a 512 connection with a crappy bt voyager 100 modem. They upgraded me straight away, (instead of waiting until July) and gave me the new modem/router as well! Only thing is they made a mistake and sent the voyager 105 instead of the 205. I rang again and they sent another straight away and never asked for either of the other 2 modems back! I must warn you though. They said as i am upgrading before they do it automatically in July i will now be tied into a contract for 3 months. Not too bad though

Sorry but that is just plain wrong. There may be a three month commitment depending if you are still under contract but definitely not a new 12 month contract.
