Upgrade your BT Internet connection for free

Logging onto the BT site the other day, I found that my area's exchange was actually running at 2Mb whereas I was still on a 512Kb connection. I emailed them to find out how much it would cost to upgrade and was informed that it didn't cost anything. I now have a 2Mb connection and am paying exactly the same amount per month.
I was told by BT that they would eventually get around to upgrading everyone but that the people who contact them are getting priority. Well worth a phone call or email to them to arrange.
Two things to note though:
1. the upload rate remains at 288Kb
2. if you have one of the old voyager 100 modems then you'll need to upgrade its driver with booster software (also available free from BT)

Be aware that with this upgrade in speed. BT are introducing download limits. Depending on which package you are on, the download limits are either 15GB or 30GB a month. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I'm moving to UK Online 8mb with 500GB per month (and free wireless router before May 17th), so that's no bother.

Almost bankrupt cable companies and their transmillennium hollow promises. Sounds like a Dr. Who script. :rotfl:

I just called BT and had by broadband basic upgraded to 1MB. I was under the impression that it would have be automatically done in March but was told it is now changed to July. Very nice customer service and worth the call.0
