    eta: interesting to note that review is written by someone who blames a bulge on "too soft sidewalls" rather than kerbing / other damage most likely caused by his driving. Really instills confidence in his opinion :D
    They were so bad he only managed to drive 10,000 miles on them.

    Besides, not an issue if you don't go round driving into kerbs in the first place, is it not? ;)

    Or potholes.

    And its not like you'll be able to brake hard to avoid them.

    These standards are very often set to the minimum requirement.

    Plus theres "meeting" standards in the cheapest possible way, and exceeding standards.

    A Perodua Myvi meets the "required" standard for safety for new cars on sale today in the UK.

    As does a Volvo V40.

    Which one do you think gives you the better survival chances in an accident?

    But you'd still be happy with Windas on your car?

    I guess its handy being a chinese tyre manufacturer.

    Get yourself some equipment and the cheapest components, pick an english sounding word - doesnt really matter what.

    Sell the tyres as cheaply and as quickly as you can via whatever source you can.

    If it all goes wrong and you start to get some heat, fold the company, start another and pick another english sounding word as a name.

    Result!

    The really crazy thing is that alibaba and all those who handle the tyres (including of course the manufacturer) before the UK dealer gets his container-load are making a profit on the unit cost of $10 to $20

    Makes you wonder what the tyre actually costs to produce at the factory gate.

    I imagine it's a bit like a cheapy bottle of wine at under a £4.99 - by the time you take off the duty, the tax, the cost of the bottle, the cork, the label, and the transport costs plus the wholesalers' %age and the supermarkets' profit - the wine in the bottle might cost as little as 5p.

    Of course some folks are perfectly happy with that type of wine - drunk it for years etc.

    Me I'd prefer a bottle where the cost was £5.09 so I'd get wine which cost three times as much.

    Of course what you get for £9.99 is fantastically better but many don't understand or appreciate or perhaps even be able to tell the difference.

    But of course all wine is the same - it's just the name on the label which is different -isn't it? ;)

    I remember back in the day when there was great money to be had importing Japanese cars because of the scarily expensive "shaken" process. The Eunos could very quickly, properly be made into an acceptable MX5 with a half days work. One of the things that the cowboys did not change was the tyres. They may well have been, "quality" Japanese brands, but they were awful. A changeover to virtually any decent European brand (yes, whatever was on special at the wholesaler) made them perform as they should.

    I am all for saving money, but I would rather save money in other areas to ensure I can afford the best tyres in my budget.

    no, discs all round but rear braking plays a small part in overall breaking, when you break the weight of the vehicle shifts to the front and front braking is more critical.

    Thats why rear mounted rear axle driver cars have so bad braking- but very good acceleration. On acceleration the weight shifts to the rear of the car.

    I'm going to keep it, rears aren't that important for braking just need to have enough grip not to aquaplane but then again I'm not one of those idiot drivers that does 40 through a bend over black ice/puddles.
