I will give you 1p if you pay the transfer fee.

They value it at £1500 and you may even find it added to their list of available plates for that much. But it may never sell and you get nothing for it until it does sell.

In the meantime you need to pay to put it on retention. Which may cost more than you will get for it anyway.

  • I'm in a similar position to the op, I'd like to know if my plate is worth anything. How do you go about to finding out if it's worth selling if you can't trust the companies which advertise online.

They are not worth more than the £250 the DVLA sell them for. Some plate sites might say it is worth £1500 or more, but all what will happen is it will sit on their list for years unsold. It does not mean there are people queuing up to buy it.

Thank you everyone. One site valued it at £1,500! I thought that couldn't be right, so I wanted to explore my options but wasn't sure where to start. The plate came with my car at no extra cost and I didn't by my little IQ for the plate. I'm hoping to get another car soon and thought selling the plate might help towards the cost of my next car.

They can value it for whatever price they like, it is actually worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it and judging by the comments on this thread that is not a lot

the company that have valued it at £1500 will not pay you that for it they will offer to advertise it on there site and try to sell it for you, if they get an offer and it does sell they will want a good chunk of the sale price as commission and fees

could try an advert on the audi forums or stick it on e bay and see if you get any bites

Sell it on ebay with a 1p starting price and you will soon find out its true value if any.

Now you know why! The plate isn't worth enough to cover the £80 cost of transferring it.

RegTransfers are the biggest advertisers of personal plates. I have been monitoring their adverts for many years and some plates have been for sale by them for at least 10 years . Generally they take 40% of the sale price , VAT is always an issue too . I would advertise your plate on ebay and motoring forums for sale sections .
Number plates used to have a good value as there were very few available (my initials are RG and there were only a few of those ever released) now there have been so many extra one released by DVLA that they are LESS rare and hence the price should have gone down , it has been the opposite ! This totally goes against the "Value" rules that relate to all other products in short supply . Why is that or how has that happened ? I am after a RG plate hence keeping an eye on the market for many years ,

Using RegTransfers seems entirely appropriate for the combination of letters you're looking for.

One must assume then that the demand has gone up quicker than the supply.

I bought a car once with a personal plate. It wasn't anything relevant to me but who's to know? Anyone who saw it thought either "There's a posh bloke with more money than sense" or....no I can't think of another option.

I want to sell my private number plate N5 AUD but there are so many private reg. companies I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure whether I should take it off my car now and put onto retention or leave it on the car until the plate is sold. Has anyone sold a private plate before and know which option is best?

wait for audi to introduce an N series car in the next millenium or so.

Or find a buyer who likes audis whose initial is NS
