Oh sorry to hear about the diabetes! Are you on insulin or diet to manage it?

  • Lemon Tree, sorry to hear your news. At least once you know you can begin to tackle stuff and hopefully this next year will be better for you. I don't know whether you are aware but my DD2 has Type 1 and since she has been diagnosed she has been a lot better health wise, admittedly there are a lot of things to take in but once it is part of your normal routine you will feel heaps better. xx

hi i'm going to be diet managed at least until they make up their minds from the tests i have next week.
Bob i didnt' know about your DD having diabeties. I can't wait to get my head around it, i've been told eat healthily, but no one will commit to exactly what i can and can't eat. I'm lousy at diets which is why i am the size i am so i really need categorical rules which i can winge about but stick to. I have managed to lose 6lb in the last two weeks so that's a start. What also hit me was that i have been told categorically we can't try for children till i've lost LOADS of weight, and it's only now i've realised how much i wanted to try even if it didn't happen

sorry to bend ears like this
  • Hi LT, it will be overwhelming at first but the thing we found the most useful is the sugar content displayed on ready made goods...you want to be looking at the lowest sugar content per 100g and look at how much is in a tin or a packet.
Lots of diabetic recipes about, but a lot of them use sweetners which aren't good for tummies. So fresh homemade food is often best because you are in control of what you put in it...then work out by portion size.

One of my friends is type 2 and her diabetic nurses/team have been invaluable. They have got her into a free gym membership with council run leisure centre which is great for a holistic approach. You will also have access to free eye tests and foot care etc. She is also on medication to help and has reduced her weight by four stones, it does fluctuate but that's life isn't it.

She also has three lovely children, no problems at all with her health during pregnancy. You have a lot to look forward to and it is all positive hun, so take heart and look at this as your lease on a new life a happier, healthier you. x

  • Oh and have a look on diabetes UK website and badger the docs for all your health care needs.
