Bob - People sometimes fail to think before they make personal comments...or just don't care! My Nan once said to me, "I see you haven't lost any weight", to which I replied, "And I see you haven't learned any manners". She wasn't very happy about that, but if you can't take it, you shouldn't give it out, should you?!
    Cheers all,
    f x

Amazing. Again laughing. A lot. I can just imagine how gob smacked your Nan would have been. Night!

Foxgloves - after my rude mother saying on the phone today, in all innocence ' have you put on as much weight with this baby as the last one?' which pretty much sums up our relationship i.e she'd know if she'd seen me.... I needed that brilliant story which made me laugh a lot!

But I am sorry for you. It's definately an only funny NOW story for you I am sure. Your landlord sounds like the guy from Rising Damp. Can't recall his name.

Hi, love this, when I used to tell my mother i was visiting, a 200 mile each way trip with 3 small children, she used to jauntily reply, Your sister will be thrilled to have you stay with her, and put the phone down. 20 years later I still am not sure whether to laugh or cry!

Can not remember where I got the picture, somewhere real, but was not taken by me.

Maria - I sympathise completely. Even though again that sounds just as funny as Foxgloves story. I just count my lucky stars OH'S side are pretty much lovely. Although I did go through a scratchy stage with my MIL just after our son was born. But she has since proven herself a pretty good gran.

  • I am SO tired, I feel like I could sleep for a week, but I have just been so busy there's been no time to stop. The good news from the vet is that the naughty tortie is now allowed out of the cage - not outside yet, but out of the cage and on the wander around the house. Of course she went straight for the closed window and attempted to jump up onto it and fell straight back down. Gah! She seems ok, fingers crossed but I was soooooo peeved with her.
    Non ending business continues.

Research price of lemoncello as OH needs it for a recipe I decided to research to see if I could find a recipe for a HM version, I have and we have everything needed already, I'm particularly pleased as OH's recipe only calls for a small amount and this way I can make the quantity he needs and not spend lots of money on something that will sit in the cupboard for years

Now to go and read what everybody else has been up to today.

Lego mum Yes I soak my oats in milk, as I find it makes creamier porridge, saves me time in the morning making breakfast as the porridge cooks quicker and as I make my porridge in a pyrex dish in the microwave it is also easier to wash up afterwards. Now anybody who likes proper Scots porridge look away now as I do not want to cause offence, my Grandfather would be spinning in his grave if he could see what I serve as porridge :o .
The porridge I've been making recently is oats, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and some sultanas to sweeten it slightly as well as milk, I then put it in the fridge overnight or leave on the side if the kitchen is cool and in the morning give it a stir and add a bit more milk if it needs it and then bung in the microwave for a couple of minutes stir again and repeat the microwaving and stiring until you have the consistency right and the time to eat it, about once a fortnight I end up reheating my porridge a few hours after it is ready as other things have come up (usually situations created by the children :D).
Sorry I can't help you with the timing as I do it by eye and people like their porridge at different consistencies.
OH doesn't like seeds in porridge so if he is also planning on having porridge for breakfast we have oats, milk, sultanas, with finely chopped crystallized ginger, and chopped dried pear and chopped dried apple, delicious especially on a winters morning.
