Thursday 3rd September - What small DFW things will you do today?

Posts: 4,106 Forumite

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!
So be proud of those small steps, they really important!:money:

Morning Ziggy - thanks for starting us off. And hello to all that follow... I can't believe it's only day 3 and I'm as tired as I am already. I feel like I've literally never stopped. Another busy day ahead and planned spends. I'll be late reporting in today for sure - so pleased it's only a 4 day week.

Morning Ziggy & all who follow
Well feeling a bit better this morning. Son's off back to school. Husband is doing drop off and pick up today as he's still on AL.
My landlord got back to me saying the plumber found the leak in the flat above. He has now fixed it and a new bathroom suite will be installed early next week. Which should stop any old items leaking excuse. He did apologise and say he will keep a closer eye on his tenants. So let's move forward from there.
On the other front, my neighbour at the flat has another workman coming today so that will give us 2 quotes to look at regarding the guttering. I really don't think this current weather is particularly representative though. It's freak in its intensity.
Today I will be:
1. Cycling all journies. And hoping for good weather. This freak rain is really worrying.
2. Counting out my tips jar to see how much of that I can use for my food budget to zero sum my grocery bill towards the credit card debt.
3. Looking at ways to make a PAD.
4. Look for roadkill/coupons/reciepts that might be useful
5. Make dinner from what we already have in the fridge
6. Not be putting the heating on. The lady on the news said she already had hers on! Whilst wearing a short skirt and thin top. Silly woman.
7. Keeping on top of the basic housework.
Think that's it for me guys.
Hope you all have a good day.

Morning all
Thanks for starting us off Ziggy.
Hope those who had a bad day yesterday have a better one today!
Well, I managed to sleep upstairs, and pup stayed down by himself, and didn't whinge till 6 am (I usually get up then anyway) - or at least I didn't hear him till then! So, fingers crossed we are over the worst - just need to get him used to sleeping in the kitchen before he starts the serious chewing :eek: He did somehow manage to wee on part of the sofabed cover, so I have all the cushions off still drying that
OH has decided to sweep the chimney today, so my list will mostly consist of clearing up :eek: Still, it does need doing, and we are getting some cold evenings, so may soon need to light the woodburner :eek:
Other bits:
*Take a few items to sales unit - I have done quite well this month, and at the end of September will be moving to a nicer position in the shopI am looking forward to this, as display options where I am at the moment are very limited, to say the least! Done
* Check banks Done
*Clean and tidy upstairs, particularly the top floor spare bedroom as baby GD trashed that yesterday, and my brother is coming to stay for the weekend and will sleep in there. Also the main bathroom. Done
* HM meals from stores Done
* Bob, your talking about heating reminded me, baby took a swipe at the heating controller here yesterday and managed to turn it on, so I must find the instructions and switch it off again :eek: It only came on in the bathroom and airing cupboard, but still! Oops must do this in a minute!
* Sort through huge bucket of tomatoes to pick out the ripest ones to roast for sauce Made 6 foil containers of sauce, and managed so far to fit 4 into the freezer. I will have another game of tetris tomorrow to fit the other two in
* Total up my spends over the last few days and see how much over my £50 target I have goneDone, but I have spent £53.18 already, so messed up the challenge for this week. Must do better next week!
* Water bay tree in front garden Done
* Pick any garden produce that is ready Done, more tomatoes and French beans
The good news is that there won't be any more beans for the freezer - any further ones we can just eat fresh. I will have to get the dehydrator out for the tomatoes though, or perhaps make some chutney. I have a bit of a chutney mountain going on already though :eek:
Well, that lot should get me started - I will update on progress later!0 -
Morning all & thanks Ziggy for the start. Sorry not read the post yet but want to reply to the below from last night.Thanks for this LegoMum. I;ve signed up to B0unts, have you had a payout yet, at one or 2 points a day I'm wondering if I'll ever get there or if I'm missing something
Really useful link you posted too, just signed up 2 a coupon site and downloaded about 4 useful apps :T:T
Right off to bed, been working my day job tonight (no overtime either) and not long finished, so glad I checked back here now - you've all so helpful and lovely :A
Back later to read fully & do my list.
Have a good day all0 -
Morning ziggy thanks for starting the thread! You always make me laugh as you always say "my little list" and then proceed with loads of things!
So much to comment on from yesterday's thread!
Firstly massive congratulations to ally! Well done, really pleased for you x
greensalad. I was a little confused when you were explaining about your bank account. Sorry, it sounded upsetting even though I didn't quite get the details. Hope you can sort it out today.
Bob what a dram with your landlord :mad: hope he pulls his finger out soon!
jonno hope you find hubby's wallet. If it's anything like my experiences of loosing my purse the moment you report it missing you'll find itI also agree this is a lovely thread, that's why I've stuck around here for so long!
dizzyblnd totally agree that at times being :money: cannot be controlled. But we can console ourselves that while we can't control the uncontrollable by keeping our eye on the small things we save and cut back so the bigger things have less impact.
Dawn your stories of your pup are seriously putting me off getting one! :eek: (I'm due to come into the 1st part of my inheritance in the next few weeks - an insurance policy for the funeral and as the money came out of my mother's account the insurers are just putting 50% of the ins policy into my account - and I have said to oh I want to get a puppy when we do)
Ok think I have replied to everyone I wanted to! Hi to everyone else!
Things for the day - trying to keep it simple and not put too many things on my list!
* check banking
* do 2 ms assignments. Probably about 3 hours work and will be paid £23.50. Shocking rate of pay but better than £0!
* do a job search
* call up HR of the job I applied for because I didn't get confirmation of receipt
* wrap & post 5 items sold on ebay
* find wellies to post - can't find them :eek:
* photo and write up 5 items to post tonight on fleabay
* finish off admin for SE employed stuff - helps if I stay on top of it!
* all meals from stores
* check through fridge and make sure everything that needs using up gets used
* keep an eye on onepoll
* go for a run
Ok seems a lot already! Going to visit a friend for coffee while in town doing one of the ms assignments. This evening I am meeting up with a friend for cocktails and catch up. Need to work out how much money I can afford to spend and take only that!
Have a great day everyone xDF as at 30/12/16

Morning all!
Hope everyone who had a bad day yesterday, has a better day today. And everyone who had a good/ok yesterday has a good one today too!
My whole body hurts today! Was trying to come up with all kinds of excuses to not go running last night, so instead decided to get my !!!! in gear and picked a route which involved a few "hills"! Not massive hills, but the first two miles were all on an uphill incline anyway!
Today I have/will:-
* Check banks
* Load of washing on 30 degree quick wash
* Hang washing on line and pray it doesn't rain!
* Take lunch to work
* Check FPL
* Earn more on OnePoll
* Go for a walk at lunch
* Look up pear recipe ideas - any recommendations for things I can freeze/preserve?
* Go to Mr A and use £1.11 price guarantee voucher from wombled receipt as expires today
* Go to circuits
* Check to see if pears are ready to be picked from tree in garden
* Dinner from stores (although no idea what!)
* Wash hair and let dry naturally
* More crochet (only about 6-8 rows to go but normally only manage a couple a night!)
Think that's everything for today!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)0 -

Morning DFW-ers,
Thanks for the starter Ziggy.
Operation Happiness and Sanity continues. Good wishes to everyone who's having trials and tribulations.
Had a lovely 2km race last night. Came 12th. Surprised myself with that. New PB over the 2km distance, too.
Nillionaire Month Three:
* Checked Finances online. OK. Still just about solvent.
* Check broadband allowance. Quite a lot left. Will get more podcasts.
* Just one caffeinated drink today. Will finish up fruit flavoured tea granules and drink tap water instead. Won't use much milk. Done.
* Turned alarm clock off at the wall til tonight. Done.
* Bedlinen out on the line. Done.
* Clear rubbish off mobile and emails. Done.
* Job-seeking tasks. Done.
* Do some ironing. Turn iron off for the last item. Done.
* Race-walk to the post office for some exercise. Done.
* Laundered shower curtain in washing machine. Did not buy a new one. Done. The curtain comes out wrinkled but after a few days the steam restores it to normal.
* Clean upstairs with Stardrops and washable cloths. Done.
* Backup phone contacts for free. On my phone you do this by
going to Phone Contacts then going to Settings>Export to SD card. I can then put the SD card in my computer and save the contacts file off it. Then email the file to myself. Free backup! Done.
* Got some broadband allowance left over this month. Using it to download a bucket load of podcasts for the coming week. Also will download updates to mobile phone Apps. Done.
