Hello to you all - hope those of you that had a bad day yesterday get a better one today.
It's been a busy morning, although I find I'm lying in till 6.30 am now that the mornings are a bit darker. First job of the day is taking my dog for a good walk, before home for breakfast.
I've just made loads of green bean chutney with some of the glut of runner beans that I have. It smells lovely & tastes even better (Yes, I know it has to be kept awhile before eating it, but I ran my finger round the edge of the empty preserving pan, and yum!). My 'stainless' steel ladle is now a lovely shade of turmeric yellow!
I'm very envious when I read of some of you with ripe tomatoes - I have tomatoes but most are still green. I can see me making green tomato chutney at this rate. They are ripening much later this year - last year I froze so many that I still have some I haven't used.
I finished making my kitchen curtains last night. I've just ironed them & am now waiting for the postman to, hopefully, bring me the extra hooks I need so that I can hang them today.
I'm also waiting in for a delivery of dog food that is arriving this morning - once that arrives, I shall cycle to my veg garden to pick yet more beans, plus courgettes, carrots & potatoes.
Dawn - I have been following the antics of your new puppy with interest. I suppose it makes a big difference on the breed of dog, but I have always had Dalmatians, and they are brilliant at settling into a new home. When I had my last puppy, I went to a car boot sale & bought up every spotty dog soft toy I could find, washed them & made them safe, and I'm sure my new pup thought he was still surrounded by his 11 siblings! I'd also taken them with us when we went to collect him, & got the scent of the other pups on the toys. He settled down in a cosy corner of the kitchen that first night & we never heard a sound all night.
I've been doing a few onepoll surveys, but get kicked of a lot of them as soon as I tick the 'retired' box. Perhaps I should put 'homemaker'?
We are going away in our caravan next week, but undecided where to go - we had planned on going north, but the forecast is better for the south, so watch this space! I'll be taking my knitting & a good book with me, so will have something to do if the weather is too wet for walking.

Morning Campers!
Well, I soon will be a camper, so I'm trying to really get on top of things before we go. The most important & time-consuming is picking all the produce that is ready & either using, freezing or preserving it. That's mostly what I've been up to so far this morning. So here's the frugal list:
*Two loads of laundry....managed about 1.5 of it on cheap tariff before it swapped over to daytime (double the night tariff). So far it's a dry day so everything blowing nicely on the line outside. Don't really want to be starting heated airer yet.
*Picked more tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines, peppers, basil & red spring onions. The onions are a variety called 'Lilia'. They're easy to grow & can be pulled at spring onion size or left to grow bigger, which means they reach a good in-between size for casseroles, etc.
*Sliced, blanched & froze aubergines for freezer. Will use the rest tonight to make my smoky aubergine pasta thingy.
*Sliced green peppers & froze. I've left some of my pepper plants in situe to hopefully ripen to red ones, but I'd got 3 plants which were looking floppy & didn't want to return from holiday to find I'd got mush where peppers used to be.
*Chopped the basil finely & have put it to freeze in ice cube tray for basil cubes. Useful in winter when no basil plants around except for in the supermarket.
*Started getting together the food we are taking with us on camping trip.
*Started shopping list for buying the rest of it. We won't need much so the remaining grocery budget for the week will go in our 'Holiday Expenses Cashbag'. We used to get terribly spendy on holiday & it feels really good now to budget the money so that we can have treats within reason but not dip into our current account.
*Decanted salt, pepper & sugar into empty washed-out tic-tac containers for camping, as space is a premium. I've seen special containers for this purpose on sale in camping shops but this method is free - thanks to Ziggy for suggesting it x
*Did a few Onepoll surveys & some Toluna quick votes. No time to spend on longer surveys today.
*Checked bank account to see if mr f's £40 Onepoll payment has landed yet. Nope!
*Finish the ribbing on Dad's jumper which I cast on last night & maybe start the main body.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch. I didn't think mr f would need one as he's got a half day but he indignantly said that he is going to Aldi on the way home to get the shopping so he would be starving & it might mean he would buy extra things! I duly added 'Make sandwiches' to my list! mr f & 'shopping while hungry' are not a good match, lol!
OK, that's me. I'm going to have a colossal pile of ironing later & have heaps of other tasks, but these are the money saving ones.
Have a better day today, all.

Maria - Sorry to hear you have been suffering with migraine. I used to get awful headaches caused by hormones. Oddly, now that I actually AM a woman of a funny age & my hormones are supposed to be all over the place, I don't get many headaches at all now. Weird.
Bob - Your ceiling leak story & people in 1st floor flats not turning taps off properly, reminded me of when I lived in the ground floor of a deeply crappy student house. I was in the lounge when a load of water came flooding through the ceiling right into the ancient (I'm thinking 1930s) electricity meter. I raced to the door of the people in the upstairs flat & explained I'd have to get a plumber that wet electrics were very dangerous & would they mind just not using their water for a little while while I got buckets sorted out & rang the (disgusting) landlord. They were 1st years & very sweet about it. All 5 of them answered the door to hear this tale. They absolutely agreed not to use the water for an hour while I tried to sort it out..........but first they ALL went back upstairs & used the loo one after the other in preparation for that hour!! I could not believe it. I stood there in horror as FIVE loo flushes came through our ceiling in quick succession!! Banged on the door again. They were so apologetic & embarassed, Just hadn't thought through the consequences!
If you have bored yourselves thus far with reading this, you might like to hear Part 2! I went out in the snow to phone the landlord (yes, us ancient people had to go out to phone boxes for calls as student houses rarely had phones & it was pre-mobiles). Explained the situation. He said 'Im not coming out in this (it was 2 miles) - there's snow on the ground'. I said 'Right. There is a load of water coming thru the ceiling into the electrics. That is dangerous. Am I going to blow up or aren't I?' He thought for a while, & said (in all seriousness)....."Well, you might do......& you might not. You've got 2 options with wet electrics". I hung up, called out a plumber & charged it to him. By March, I was living elsewhere!
So, Bob - hope your problem is now well & truly getting dealt with.

Foxgloves - after my rude mother saying on the phone today, in all innocence ' have you put on as much weight with this baby as the last one?' which pretty much sums up our relationship i.e she'd know if she'd seen me.... I needed that brilliant story which made me laugh a lot!
But I am sorry for you. It's definately an only funny NOW story for you I am sure. Your landlord sounds like the guy from Rising Damp. Can't recall his name." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D
