Because some of us totally disagree with your assumptions and conclusions. I have 8 contracts at present, end up being paid rather than paying them and always know precisely how much of my allowance I have used. I care not one jot if I haven't used it - as long as I never exceed it (whioch in opwerating this way for many years with multiple contracts I never have done).
Why is it people with their own logic always spoil it for many others because they only see in straight lines?0 -
You haven't answered my question - what is the difference between the mobile phone sector and the energy sector that causes heavily surcharged out-of-allowance usage to be justified in the mobile phone sector but not in the energy sector?mobilejunkie wrote: »Why is it people with their own logic always spoil it for many others because they only see in straight lines?0 -

I have to agree it's strange logic. The fact is the mobile sector is a completely different business model. I pay about £12 a month which I think is more than reasonable and it's more than enough for my usage.
I've never heard anyone complain that they don't use a similar model to the energy sector. I think people would rather have the plans we have today with generous allowances than the sort of model you're describing. You can get sim only plans with unlimited minutes, texts and 2gb of data for about £15. How is that unreasonable or a rip off?
If you have an android phone you can set a data usage limit. I don't think what nfh is describing is a real concern for many people.
If you want to stream video bt mobile have a £20 plan that gives you £20gb of data which is very cheap.0 -

There's no real answer to that but it's most likely because it makes mobile networks money.0

I seen it as the energy sector are payg but mobile operators obviously have payg and contract. If you want to pay your mobile bill like a energy bill go on payg. Also surly when you take out the contact and agree to it you are agreeing that should you go over your allowances you will pay the agreed costs per min. The high cost that the mobile networks charge is a different subject.
The op went over the allowance and now needs to pay for that at the costs they agreed to when taking out the contact. It amazes me how you still get people complaining about getting a high bill for going over alliance or using phone abroad how much is it publicised that these cost alot0 -
Google project fi is a good concept in that you pay up front for unlimited min and text and whatever data you think you need and any data you don't use you get refunded for0

Ultimately there is no one size fits all. It is a very wide market with hundreds of options and different ones suit different people.
No-one is forced to take out a contract or go PAYG. The energy market is totally different for many reasons - for starters the gas or electricity is the same, it's just the company billing for it which is optional. I do have an ancient PAG sim with lots of dosh on it - but never use it except to keep it alive. When I got the credit (most of it free) I was loathe to use it because it cost me quite a lot per minute. Now I have contracts which cost me nothing (the reverse, in fact) and I have far more minutes and texts than I need. Should the day ever arrive when my contracts aren't making money for me and actually cost me something I will still go with a contract because in my opinion it is better value. If not, I won't. In either case it will depend on the many options available and my own particular requirements.
What I resent are crusades to restrict my choice and "protect" me - which invariably cause me to lose many benefits and end up paying more.0 -
i had a £3,309.4 bill for data last month for an additional 5.4 meg of data over a 4 hr and 2 hr period
BT have refunded it but they are still ahppy to charge 50p per meg or £612 per gig0 -
