this happened to me and racked up a £3,309.40 in about 24hrs
Am looking for help to get this cancelled. BT business mobile capped my previous month's bill and blocked the data at £150 or so, but this last bill it was uncapped and got a nasty bill in the post today

just got a £3,309.4 bill for my BT mobile- thought it was a printing mistake !! and then had to have a sit down... Basically was away camping and let my son watch a bit of sponge bob square pants- in the camper down on a camp site in Kent. Apparently we used 5.4 gig over the data allowance in less than 48hrs and this is chargeable per meg and works out to £3,309.4 which is nuts....
the previous month- July I switched off my WIFI accidently and the bill was £213.36 but they blocked the data as they had set a cap. This is bad enough !! but when this bill was paid somebody in BT unblocked the data and didnt leave the cap and the bill went a bit crazy. Called them up and they insisted i'd have to pay it all or theyd enforce it.
Can anyone suggest anything ? BT werent very sympathetic and insisted i would have to pay it all. A kind person suggested i paid half now and the rest by payment plan- nice really nice of them
I'm getting a call from WHICH on friday morning for some advice.
what can i do ? any ideas ? any suggestions would be really helpful
the direct debit which wont get paid is due on the 10th so was thinking of cancelling it and PACing the number away as i need it for work... they are charging another £540 for the PAC code- really nice of them0 -
The charge for going over your limit is 10p per Mb so 5.4Gb should work out at around £540 which strangely is the amount you are being asked for to release you PAC code, although an operator cannot refuse to provide you with this on the grounds that you owe money on your account, neither can they charge you for it so I don't have a clue what is going on there.0

Didn't July's bill serve as a warning about their excessive charges? I'm genuinely puzzled why you would continue using data freely after this. Hopefully they will apply a different tariff to your bill, it would have been £20 on my current payg plan!0

Also BT mobile offer a "bill limit" feature where you can limit your bill to as little as £5 over plan.0

Yes.
1) Use a data counter so you can check immediately at any point how much data you've used.
2) Check that regularly if you've used the phone.
3) Stop using it if you've exceeded your allowance.
4) Don't give your phone to children to play with.
5) Put locks on the phone and sim so no-one can use it if it falls into their hands.
6) Don't let it fall into their hands.
7) Don't cancel your direct debit or your credit history will be wrecked for the next 6 years (apart from being chased by debt collectors).
8) Don't PAC out. The cost is probably correct and you're likely to end up with another contract with someone else where you come and here and complain about exceeding your allowances and actually being charged for it.
9) Find out exactly what the charge is for. IF it's wrong you can do something about it.0 -
Hi ConanTheBlacksmith,
Sorry that you've received such a large bill.
We'd like to investigate this so we are going to tweet you a link so that we can chat with you.

Ask BT to recalculate your bill as if you had bought the most favourable bundle or monthly allowance for your usage. It is customary for businesses to give volume discounts, whereby the price per unit goes down as consumption increases, but mobile phone networks think they can get away with doing the opposite, which defies common sense.0

By default there should be a cap on each mobile for total spend and for foreign data roving. Looking at my account for both our mobiles are set for £100 & £40 respectively. If BT actually took your cap off without you asking them too then they should reduce the bill accordingly.
Hopefully Robbie the BT rep on here should be able to help you sort this out.0 -
on the other side , did you honestly not realise that streaming TV over a mobile would use a load of data ??Ex forum ambassador

If BT unknown to you removed the cap they accepted liability in doing so without your consent. To remove such cap when you previously ran up a large data bill was sheer lunacy by their staff on processing I assume a card payment, no due diligence was applied to your account by removing such cap with or without your consent.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0
