OK mid range tyres?

  • im going to go with avon zv5, they've got ok reviews on tyrereviews.co.uk and are cheap at £72 fitted per wheel.

The barum ones at this price range had far worse reviews.
  • just because a well renouned company makes a tyre through a different brand name at a much lower cost does not mean they're the same tyre. They realise there is a bigger demand for economy tyres espeically from far east so they make tyres using inferior compounds to their flagship brand.

Each tyre make needs to be counted on its own merit and not the parent company of the brand name does.

I use Jinyu YU61 tyres on my car and they cost me £50 each fitted compared to a branded tyre which would cost £140 for my wheel size (215/50/17 if i remember correctly).
They are classed as a budget tyre but have good all round handling and ive had about 8 since ive owned the car all have lasted more than 20,000 miles.

after paying a fitter to put these camskill tyres on do you end up with any savings at all?

most tyre places refuse to fit tyres bought from elsewhere, the ones that do will charge over the odds for fitting ranging froim £10-£15 a tyre which wipes out any savings.

If you buy a tyre from the same place as the one that fits it they make profit from the tyre so their fitting cost is much more reasonable.

When I did a comp[arison before camskill came up around £7 cheaper per tyre compared to black circles. But then if I had to pay for fitting it would wipe out any savings.

Oh, about half to three quarters of the forty quid per tyre difference, easily.

Always assuming you can't get a fitter to match - or come closer to - that price.

Delivered tyres are too much hassle if there is a problem. You then get the fitter blaming the tyre and the tyre company saying there's nothing wrong. If I buy online, I get fitting included with it all dealt with at the tyre place. Formula 1 autocentres sometimes come out cheapest online and you can then just phone up the nearest one and they match the quote.
