Took me a whilt to find my thread then, i thought it was gone as the search bit doesnt seem to be working properly for me. Ive just got back from my trip away the break really did me good and we didnt even spend much money so im pretty pleased with that.
I really need to look at my budget now and plan ahead for the cost of the baby. im still being very cautious as its so early still, but i think i need to think about it financially. I know there will be lots to buy as i have absolutly nothing to start me off. ive had a look at the cost of furinture on line and it looks like its going to cost a fortune.
I think i will have to pay less on my overpayments and keep some savings back so i can get what i need when its time. not sure how my DFD will be affected, i might end up adding 6 months-1 year to it at worst.DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0 -
Depending upon how fussy you are about things being seond hand you can get lots through ebay / freecycle / NCT sales. I was quite happy to get the boring stuff I wasn't bothered about like this (eg bath, safety equipment, steriliser and then it leaves your money to buy the nice things such as prams, car seats etc) I also got a couple of really nice, hardly worn bundles of clothes. Plus don't forget all the Freebie sites you can sign up to - Boots is especially good - you get a free changing bag (I use it as my "upstairs" bag) and loads of money off / extra points coupons. Also Tesco Parenting club is good - free basket of baby stuff and lots of extra points coupons. Lets see, you can also sign up with Emma's diary (though their bags aren't that good!), Cow and Gate, Aptamil...
Also people will buy you things - don't forget that! So don't buy loads of newborn baby clothes as that is what most people buy you.
Basically a baby can be as cheap or expensive as you want to make it but I can understand with it being your first and all the trouble you've had if you want everything to be perfect!0 -
Ive been having a look at some of the freeby sites which ill definatly make the most of. ive been looking on ebay. Im sure i will be able to get plenty of bargins on there in a few months. I had allready thought to only buy very basic clothes as i know thats what most people tend to buy. Ill save my money for the bigger things.
Ive managed to have 2 no spend days, not going out again today so im counting it all ready. I have so much ironing sitting in front of me that im being far to lazy to do. I really should be getting on with it.DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0 -
WOW!!!!!!That's absolutely the very best news I've heard in ages. I'm so totally chuffed for you and your OH. I just knew that it was going to work this time, but obviously didn't want to say anything just in case! You'll have to start a countdown in your sig - it's amazing how quickly the time flies by when you do! Can't believe I'd missed your post!
Glad that you had a bit of a break - take advantage of it as much as you can! And take it so easy, especially in the first few months. It's so tempting to do loads of things, but it's not worth it - just sit back and eat healthy stuff (coated in chocolate!) all day!
I agree with Chocaholic - it's entirely up to you how expensive or cheap you want to make it with a baby. With my first (obviously pre LBM) I spent a fortune on gorgeous new stuff, and most of it was barely used. This time I've bought virtually nothing at all and doubt we'll be any the worse for it.
If you PM me your address, I've got a really good book that I got from Which magazine about baby stuff that I won't be needing again!0 -
Hi lunar,
I'm back online after a few months with a wobbly internet connection which iswhy i haven't been in touch. You were always so kind when i first started posting and it really gave me a boost.
I just wanted to say congratulations on the pregnancy - I'm so pleased for you!
Asda is good for baby clothes, esp the basics. My brother and his girlfirend are due to have their baby in May and i've bought a few bits and pieces for them from there. Apparently tescos is also good for maternity clothes when you get bigger.
Keep us updated!
Lots of love,

Aw, no update - was hoping you'd tell us when the scan is booked for! Hope all's well with you and that you're taking it nice and easy.
