Don't know if you follow Caroline Hirons aka Beauty Mouth blog, interesting article o ingredients on her blog today:D

Thanks for pointing this out .. just read it - interesting article.

There's so many nasties, how do people remember what's bad? Also, is it really possible to stay away from these ingredients if you're on a budget?

I'd never read her blog, but checking it out, it sounds like she has a similar sort of view to me on ingredients like mineral oil.

It's weird - I have ultra sensitive skin sometimes and would prefer to (and mostly do) use products with more natural ingredients and non-animal tested, but the one product that I can use, no matter how sore and red my face might be, without stinging or aggravation is Cliinique D D M Lotion which has the following ingredients list:-

Water, Mineral Oil, Glycerin, Petrolatum, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Oil, Urea, Lanolin Alcohol, Triethanolamine, Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seedcake, Propylene Glycol Dicaprate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Butylene ...

So much so, that I try never be without some in the house. I have spent a fortune trying expensive, well recommended products from the "more pure ingredient" ranges. Hey ho, first world problem, not reallly moaning:)

    I'm in again

Managed 7 UU's last month, and having had a look at various items in my en-suite I'm hoping to match that this month. I might (just might) even exceed it if I manage to convince myself to get out and use a face mask

It depends how tight your budget is. I suspect if you are usually buying at rock bottom prices - £1-2 for a shower gel and so forth it might be a bit challenging. If you have a bit more wiggle room, I think it's doable - not all natural brands are expensive. Try Faith in Nature, Dr Organic, Yes to....

To keep things simple rather than read the ingredients in detail every time, I mainly go for either brands that are stocked by Love Lula - they say

"LoveLula brings together an unparalleled selection of the world’s finest natural and organic beauty products. Our brands are hand-picked and tested: products must be created using the highest possible percentage of high grade, ethically sourced natural and organic ingredients; and they must be effective, luxurious and guilt-free.

We insist on NO Parabens, NO SLS's and NO animal testing. Beyond this we seek out the most innovative companies and strive to support morally run and environmentally driven businesses."

or I go for brands that are covered in the Green Beauty Bible.

Thanks for the suggestions, Indiepanda. I've ordered from LoveLula before - loved the Hurraw lipbalm, in fact the only time i have ever totally used up a lip balm.

    Will check out BeautyBible.
  • i love beauty bible too! my new rule of thumb is if its in there, in my Vegan Kind box or on Love Lula it'll be ok. some natural makeup just doesn't cut it though so I'm still making exceptions and my new rule for that is as long as the company is cruelty free go ahead.

Dr Bronners shower gel is my HG, its cheap as chips and does go a long way. the ranges in Holland and Barratt like Dr Organic are very good and have pretty comparable prices to superdrug and boots own ranges so it doable, its just getting used to shopping elsewhere.

speaking of natural beauty bargains, the mag freebies are very good this month (and natural!) so i have INs of Balance Me collagen boost cleanser, Neals Yard bee lovely body lotion and Organic Glam mascara thats been on my list to try for ages so I'm glad i don't have to fork out full price for it as usually natural mascaras are useless!

I'm having a pamper evening tonight, I've had a rotten cold and feel miserable. i took one look at my roots yesterday and hot footed it to boots to get hair dye so I'm sat with that on and a sachet of face mask that came in the vegan kind box a few boxes ago and it smells so strongly of chocolate I've been forced to eat truffles! :rotfl::eek:

Hope you feel better soon. Which magazines have the freebies in this month?

Red has Organic Glam mascara, InStyle has Body Lotions from Neal's Yard. Just posted on freebies forum by the way. InStyle offer might be WHS only.
