Preparing for Winter

We found the same last year - single duvets, or, when it gets v cold, 2 double duvets each folded into the single duvet covers .... magic! If you put a cover over the bed as a whole then it looks nicer and also means that if one gets hotter than the other the extra covering can just be pushed off without prejudicing the colder one. Anyway, as I said, it worked for us.If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0

I found that DH always hogged the double duvet so bought a cheap king size duvet and a couple of covers in the sales and it has worked brilliantly.
He still hogs the dvet but I am not left in the cold anymore!
I went shopping last night and had a fit at the prices. Turkey mince used to be about £1.39 and it is now £1.79!!! The price of diced chicken seemed to have double!! Ended up buying skinned and boned chicken thighs and dicing it myself.
Might just go and buy some turkey thighs to stick in the freeer for emergencies.
Talking DH into getting two sacks of potatoes and onions to store in the shed for winter as it saves so much money.
Put leek and potato soup in the slow cooker and making dough for home made rolls to go with it for later.
Have warned student DD abou rising prices and intend to fill a large storage box with tins, pasta and noodles for her to take with her next term!"This site is addictive!"

just a thought but......................what if there had been a preparing for summer thread? you know, each of us discussing getting in paddling pools buckets and spandes, tshirts, sun cream, ice cream etc. BUT its been the summer that never was, so, before we all buy loadsa throws, quilts, thick curtains etc etc maybe we should just stand back, check out what we already have which can be used if it gets very cold, and so aviod going overboard and wasting time and money."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

Can you get sheets of foam thermal insulation stuff from somewhere like B&Q and cut to size and line the box? Might help?
As for the duvet comments - we have a double bed and a king size duvet to make sure there is extra duvet (and still fight over it sometimes)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
For anybody who might be decorating, use warmaline to line the outside walls. We did this in our first house and what a difference it made.
Edit; should have explained , in case anyone is interested, that warmaline is an expanded polystyrene on a roll, like waqllpaper, and we got ours in B&Q.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -

I think its a good idea to see what you have got before you buy things as thats not very MS but its brill to share tips and ideas a lot of people have an emergancy box they stock up and its usually cheaper to do this in summer when things are cheap as for the people who are not putting the heating on remember not to go overboard and get too cold!!!0
