    1. Build up extra on GAS meter
    2. Hot water bottles
    3. Throws for beds
    4. Thermal linings for boys room
    5. Look at thicker curtains/thermal lining for front room.

Maybe replacing any (non-dimmer switched) bulbs with energy saving in the meantime.

    Must try harder. :o

Ok have finally achieved one thing... have just ordered a blanket/throw for our bed. So just the boys beds to go - anyone know where any good price navy single size blankets/throws are??? Seen some for £7.99.

Or where I get hot water bottles from - water or microwave options:confused:

Thermal curtain linings seem fairly cheap in Dunelm Mills so plan to get those from there.

As for dimmable energy saving bulbs - nightmare :o The dimmable bulbs that will fit in our front room are candle shape bulbs and will show over the top of the shades - so our other choices seem to be: non-dimmable (not happy), or non energy saving

  • We have two bulbs in our living room that are dimmable, and they are the only ones in the house that are non-energy saving bulbs. We've got it so that we predominantly use lamps with energy saving bulbs in - it makes the atmosphere nice and cosy. :) I'm lucky as the OH loves candles, which give toasty light. :D

We've got 3 x 60w bulbs in the front room that are on a dimmer. 5 x 40w bulbs in the bedroom on a dimmer.

4 x 50w spots in the bathroom (non-dimmer), 4 x 50w spots in the hall as well as 8 of a different type spot in the kitchen :o

    All pre-MSE :o

But the spots we've tried have been soooo dim so as to be useless in the bathroom and kitchen. So it looks like the first line of attack will be the bedroom - but it's a chandelier type with candle bulbs so if the bulbs are fat and ugly it will seriously show :o

The whole duvet thing is a bit of a battleground in our house! DH always feels the heat and I feel the cold. I've been winging already that it must be time to move off the "summer weight" duvet but he won't have it. He moans that the memory foam mattress topper (Costco - fab price) that I bought after my whiplash injury causes him to superheat. I think we're heading for those Ikea beds where you can have a separate mattress and your own duvet like the German's have!

On the upside I got two Asda fleeces for £1.77 each, they'll be great for the sofa and for camping.

    I have this problem too.

Bf likes to leep curled up in the fetal position so i get hardly any duvet, plus he feels the cold but i over heat quite quickly, i never seem to have a happy medium.

I asked bf about putting a bedsheet/cover on top of the duvet for extra heat and he said ok but he didnt want to live like a grandad - um....hello - i pay the fuel bills so your doing it! but i found last year we slept on top of a fleece blanket and it was lovely and cosy so think i will do this again.

Somone before has suggested putting a double duvet under the bottom sheet and then having two single duvets so you each have a duvet so theres no fighting and if one is hot they can kick it off, if one is cold they cna wrap up warm in it.
    Time to find me again
