Yet more good news eh? Regarding the draught excluders. I seem to remember watching some kids programme, where they got an old jumper, cut the sleeves off, then joined them together to make a long shape. Stiched up the sides so they matched and cut off excess fabric. Then use the rest of the jumper and other odds to fill the DE. I think you can go one step further and make a little cat or dog face on them.
On the other hand this may be entirely my own idea!!!:j So nip down to the pound rail in your charity shops - you may end up with some funky tweedy/checked draught excluders???

Surely those freebie local newspapers could come in useful for something. I think newspaper used to be used to keep people warm.

I heard them discussing on the radio how the shops are surprised how well thermal underwear/socks etc. are selling. :)

PS the cat has come in very handy over the last few hours - it was very warm earlier, then turned chilly. So cat was pulled in for lap duty while I watched a film under a snug cover.

larmy - thats a really good way to make draught excluders, I've spent this afternoon sorting through all the kids clothes that are falling apart - they were intended for the rag bag but I will cut the arms off and join them together beforehand.

Re the harvest failure, they will all jump on this and hike up the price of everything. They can blame it on a) price of petrol b) shortages !

I used a small towel cut to size and filled with rice but you could use what you wanted and put an outer cover that could be removed to be washed.

Put it in the microwave for about one minute with a cup of water in the micowave at the same time to stop it getting too dry and sharp.

We are in an Edwardian town house which gets really cold even with double glazing and good loft insulation.

We have been hoping for over a year to get moved to a house that is easier to heat but can't sell ours as there are no buyers just now!

Yeah things are gettign worse with regards to the food shortages - thats why ive been trying to stock up on a few essential bits now so that over christmas i dont feel the squeeze so much with food prices as they look like they are set to rise again and i just really cannot afford it to - my poor budget and bill paying is getting to its available limit and with a 4 year old about to start full time school its set to break very soon which i am not looking forward to.

Am still looking into ways to insulate the house but money jsut doesnt seem to be allowing yet. Got little things like dressing gown for little one and our bedsheets on bed etc - need to get fleeces out and washed too at some point but weather doesnt seem to be too cold at night yet so we arent really feeling it - i dare say come september we will be. Luckily too our kitchen is very small so if im cooking i leave the door open and it heats our living room which is fairly long but stays warm fairly easy and everything we need is in this room - bar the toilet obviously.

must go and look over my list of things to do and what i need.
    • make blankets for beds - im hoping to do the no sew ones so have some nice cheap fleece being watched on ebay so will see how much shop in town charges first! - shop in town shut so no fleece but he has a bob the builder one which he can use
    • line curtains in our room, bens room and living room - not found any material to do this with yet but still looking
    • blind for bens room - debating whether to use an old duvet to line curtain instead of a blind
    • hang curtains on front door - long enough to cover letter box but not long enough to reach the floor (dog has a few possession issues) - need a net curtain pole - got magnets though
    • draught excluders for bedrooms - need to find some old jumpers now
    • clingfilm windows in living room, bens room, kitchen and hallway. - need to measure windows
    • bubble wrap windows in toilet and bathroom - need bubble wrap so i feel a supermarket fruit box bubble wrap nabbign session coming on
    • block draughts - find them first
    • fleeces under bedsheets (have these in cupboard so will air before hand)
    • blankets/throws on sofa - again have these now (well they are thick knitted bedsheets) just needed airing
    • bedsheet on bed - needs airing
    • new pillows for bed (ours are a bit flat now and figure if we get 1 new pillow each there will be more to cuddle into thus keeping us warmer)
    • pyjamas for all - jsut DH to do now
    • jumpers/hoodies for all
    • scarf/gloves and hats each
    • vest and thermals for ben and bf
    • stock up on/get boyfriend ot make more candles - got a pack fo tealights form wilko - will get more on next trip
    • rice bags or hot water bottles needed
    • slippers for all
    • rug for the living room (currently cheap poundland vinyl slats that look like laminate but it gets reall cold in winter)
    • bath mat for toilet/bathroom as they are tiled floor and cold!
    • get store cupboard stocked - made a start
    • Jam mde this autumn and preserved away - blackberry picking as foudn a good patch later today before work
    • Stock up on toilet roll (i always get a horrid early morningloo roll run mid winter and i hate it!! again in process have about 36 in there at present
    • Medicine cabinet stocked
    • Pet food supply stocked (um is giving me one of those bins liek you get in a self serve pet food place with the scoop so can get a nice big bag to do him all winter then) - got bag need the bin now
    hmmm.............must try harder me thinks
    Time to find me again

    Hi SammyKaye

Have you tried your local Freecycle for things like 'curtains' or curtain lining material, blackout blinds, old jumpers, pet 'bin' ?? You never know......;)

I asked for candles last year (even broken ones) and got tons of them! I said I could melt the broken ones and make new candles with them. I know your BF could do this too!
