Preparing for Winter

So far with the winter prep, I've bought (and used) flu hot drinks!! GOt wind up torches- ones now in my car. Put a fleece over the nasty draughty window in the lounge!! Started stocking up on food for the storecupboard!
I have bought the stuffing to make draught excluders but the sun is shining and I don't want to curse it by making them!!Married in 2016. Bought our first home in 2017. Expecting our first baby in November 2017

Anymore info on those thermal panels?
Hi there !
Here's a linky to those panels ... they're still on sale for four pounds each.

Can I direct you to the following MSE thread too ? We managed to get my gf's Mum a free energy monitor & standby saver socket from British Gas. The offer's still on. The energy monitor she never really got the hang of, but her telly & dvd machine etc are all plugged into this standby saver ... as soon as a gizzmo goes into standby, the plug turns it off automatically ... might not save much money but hey, every penny counts.

I don't mean to upset anyone but I LOVE the Autumn & Winter and I deliberately try and get really cold feet before going to bed just for the joy of putting them on a hot water bottle. OH thinks I'm nuts:o
I do something similar, Athome1. I never wear sleeved tops to bed and deliberately leave one arm out in the cold until I can bear it no longer and then bring it under the duvet and enjoy! It actually seems to help me get to sleep for some peculiar reason but I suspect that's all in my mind!Household: Laura + William-cat

I think we have something in common, when it comes to the leaving one arm out...:o
I sometimes do it with my left foot as well.:eek:Out the side as I am almost always in the foetal position, on my right side.

(MODS: Please leave as a separate post it needs to remain near the top so people can be aware of it rather than it getting lost if combined into the "preparing for winter" post)
Hey everyone...
Please take time to read this if you can this is all over the place at the moment yet the met office wont report it or the newspapers for fear it will cause mass panic: Read his blog it makes chilling reading.
http://globalcoolingnewiceageuk.blogspot.com/ - It gets quite technical in places but its very interesting and I am gripped now!
With facts to back up the reasoning why we will have a severe winter.
Follow this guy on twitter: http://twitter.com/ukweathergeek for updates etc.
Many weather people have been participating in other forums... a lot of these people are geeks in this area so have a huge interest for no financial gain unlike the met office who get it wrong everytime!

Before you say oh its the daily mail... this is just a discussion thats happening on the daily mail forums and the daily mail have not participated in anyway.
He is very good and knows his stuff having proven the met office wrong many years running now.
Please make everyone aware of this so they can start preparing as the goverment wont until its too late. Lives could be at risk particulary the elderly... last year our gas supply nearlly ran out this year if its colder the same could happen and then everyone will turn to electricity and overload the grid meaning blackouts.
Some people are saying it could be as bad as the winter of 1947...

No, I do this as well and it certainly is a failsafe way for me to get to sleep if I can't. Stick one arm and leg out till they are really cold and then bring them in and enjoy the warmth - and I fall asleep instantly. I thought it was just me as well:D“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

I've read this in a few places online which picked up on that guys's predictions. There was a whole discussion about if the Gulf Stream as we know it is gone.
Anyway, it's even more incentive to be prepared!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

i too keep seeing those weather predictions for winter, and whilst i HOPE its wrong,im kinda geting a sinking feeling.....
so to that end,im gonna re read this entire thread to check i havent missed any tricks!!
also going to write out a huge list of meals that me and the boys like that can be cooked in the slowcooker, not only for convience for me,but also as a heating source for the kitchen!!
also going to dig out the thermal mugs from the camping kit,to use around house,as was fed up last winter of my cuppa going cold b4 i was even halfway through, and make sure the sleeping bags are acessible, just in case boiler breaks down,as last yr the condensing pipe froze(now insulated) and the house got down to 4c in in mine and hubbys bedroom, and kids playroom,bbrrrrrrr.0
