I live in London. Since posting I have been to Primark and bought a lovely deep purpl fleece for a tenner.
It is about the size of a double blanket and made of a kind of chenille - very plush and cozy.

I really love this thread - I suffer with dreadful SAD and winter is awful for me but this thread always cheers me up and actually makes me feel quite cosy!
I hope this winter isn't as bad as last year or its going to cripple me with gas (prepay meter)... There are loads of berries on the trees again this autumn which is usually a sign of a bad winter on its way :eek:
I haven't done much to prepare for winter yet except get new snuggly PJs as I will be moving house in a few weeks.
The new house has the cooker right by the back door so I worry it might be dangerous to hang a curtain there... any other suggestions please as the door is a big draughty and only single glazed.
Thanks for all the great tips
ps I am so envious of all of you who have open fires or burners... I really miss mine0 -
I've got my coal ordered ready to be delivered as we need it, chimney sweep booked for tomorrow and DH is going to work through the pile of tree trunks we have for logs.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

why don't you have a curtain there but when your using the cooker pull the curtain to other side of door so it isn't close to the cooker. then when the cooker is off and cooled down then close the curtain . or maybe make a curtain that perhaps just velcros on and off door for when your not using the cooker ?0 -
jcr16 we have a Land Rover, best 4x4. We've had others but it beats any hands down. I need to think car prep too, we ended up helping a lot of people last year get out of ditches, drifts etc but could do with being a bit more prepared instead of scrambling round for ropes on a snowy boxing day morning to drag a car out so someone could visit their Mum.
thankyou for that. we do love the land rover discovery. not decided yet , as at the mo buying a 4x4 is not essetial as we have a fantastic car. but it something we want prob within the year if we can find the right one.0 -
I'm saving up for one! Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0

I just got rid of one which was a gas guzzler and had lots of "genetic" problems. One of the nicest drives I've ever had though, and I am sure I will miss it in the winter. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

The single glazed windows on the bedrooms are being replaced with double glazing right now
Just in time as my window rattling with the slighest wind or foot step was driving me mental!
