But the Gulf Stream hasnt stopped. And this is only one person's view. I'm all for being prepared - where we live we have to be - but I like evidence & proof to back up what is being said. far too much of this on the net . Anybody can post a blog and say wild mad things and then everybody jumps on it and they all start screaming.
I havent the energy to scream and run around !!

Yeh but the thing is I have followed this chap for a while now... and you will see that from last year he proved met office wrong many times and some other scientists also.

His blogs reflect that... the gulf stream has stopped but is slowly trying to recconect this week but they say that it wont be enough.

Well I don't agree that the blogger has proved anything. And long range forecasting is notoriously unreliable. But he might well be right. I don't think it'll make any difference to my plans, I'll just prepare as best I can which is what I'd have done anyway.:)
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I'm always ready for a hard winter and we cope fine. But I'd like to know how somebody could prove the GS has stopped. As far as I'm aware it isnt possible to just "stop". It might alter course a bit but I dont think a major ocean current can stop ! So if it has altered course then where is it? I like proof of things. I cant help it, I'm a Capricorn. LOL

    .

Read the blog it shows scans of the sea temperatures, not sure how they do it but the scans show that it had changed course.

The bp oil disaster and all that crude oil sat on the bottom of the ocean can stop or slow the current down.

I think it has altered course so in a sense its stopped bringing warmer water to the uk.

Not getting at you richard, just not convinced. But we in this thread should all be prepared anyway. If we have been paying attention :) (up the back I'm talking to you lot ) LOL !
Have both gas & elect for cooking. You can do wonders in one pot on a calor gas.
Try if poss to have gas & elect for heat too. A calor gas heater is a life saver.
Try to have a good stash of food in the house to save you going out in bad weather.

    Hi there !

Here's a linky to those panels ... they're still on sale for four pounds each.

    https://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy-savers/Heating/radiator-panels.htm

Can I direct you to the following MSE thread too ? We managed to get my gf's Mum a free energy monitor & standby saver socket from British Gas. The offer's still on. The energy monitor she never really got the hang of, but her telly & dvd machine etc are all plugged into this standby saver ... as soon as a gizzmo goes into standby, the plug turns it off automatically ... might not save much money but hey, every penny counts.

    :D

I just bought a pack of 10 from Amazon for just under £31 and that is including delivery. Thereby saving a few pennies!:p

I do something similar, Athome1. I never wear sleeved tops to bed and deliberately leave one arm out in the cold until I can bear it no longer and then bring it under the duvet and enjoy! It actually seems to help me get to sleep for some peculiar reason but I suspect that's all in my mind!

OMG - I do the same!! Don't tell anyone though, they already think I'm nuts!:D

I believe a recent study has found a possible reason for the correlation between low solar activity and cold weather in Europe (the little Ice Age of the 17th century for example). It seems that during periods of low solar activity, the jet stream develops kinks and this can allow cold air which is normally kept further north to pour down into the kink. If so then there is an increased probability of a series of colder winters in Europe until solar activity starts up again. Not the same thing as saying this particular winter will be cold.

However, if it is, I will personally be ready for it. I just wish the council would be ready!!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
