Was thinking about making some draught excluders for the doors with fleeces, does anyone have any ideas of what I could use to stuff/ fill them with?

Lola 34,I stuffed one with cut up old tshirts that were too grotty to use for anything else and another was filled with the stuffing from a cushion I got from the charity shop for 50p.

My neighbour had that problem in her kitchen:eek:
She put flour down around all the edges of the room at nights and a saucer of beer in the middle of the room.
Next morning found that the trail seemed to start form a solid wall! but after nosy around found a little gap in the corner about 2" up from the floor. They were going across the wall then down onto the floor.
The other side of the gap was the remains of an old outside loo.

I was just going to say that annie. My daughter did that - and there was a hatch in the floor under the kitchen carpet, they were coming up fromt here. Horrible wee sods.

I am going to have nightmares  - am terrified of the wee beasties. I have found a smallish (not as small as I'd like) slug in the downstairs loo a few times. I threw him out the back door which is right beside the loo (old takeaway containers come in handy for transporting beasties that terrify me). Then I thought that the beasties always looked the same and maybe it's the same one with a "homing instinct" so last time I flung him into the neighbours' front garden (sorry neighbours but I was panicking) which is a lot further from the scene of the crime. I haven't seen him since but I did sprinkle an egg shell barrier to confine him in there so he can't venture to the rest of the house.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I have now bought my fleeces - brown - 2 for £3 in Asda and a 13.5 tog duvet.

Need to order my velcro tape from ebay after next payday and I can get going. Still want a flanelette sheet, can only see them on ebay so far.

I have really enjoyed this planning and it has made me feel quite empowered. Bring it on Jack Frost!!!!!

If you have a B & M near by I got a double flanalette sheet for £4.99 there not fantastic quality bt have washed well.
Although I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. Love you babies :grouphug:

Fear is a disease....Hope is it's only cure!
  • Well today has been baltic and have even had the heating on for a couple of hours to take the chill off the air so I suppose I had better start getting prepared. Thankfully most of what others are doing dont need doing in this house so its a small list compared to what the rest of you seem to be doing.

    1. stock up on screenwash & de-icer
    2. make emergency box to keep in the car - torch, something to eat & drink, fleece blanket, list of phone numbers, change for phone box, sweeping brush for snow (i used one last year as it was easier to get all snow off roof etc)
    3. buy snow shovel
    4. locate & buy grit
    5. emergency box for house ( possibly shoe box type thing) torch, candles, lighter, old plug in phone (instead of cordless), bar of chocolate and bottle of wine :D
    6. re-hem curtain in hall - this i did midway through winter last year and it kept the hall toasty warm.
    7. sort out summer clothes and relegate to the spare room
    8. find my walking boots
    9. make sure winter coat still fits.
    10. stock up medicine box.

will start buying whats needed next month and will get on with the little tasks at the moment.

old knickers, stray socks, torn clothing etc etc. bubble wrap can also go inside but you might want something heavier inside as well as a stiff breeze might blow away a draught excluder that only had bubble wrap in it :rotfl:

Where do you live S-W? It's been warm and sunny here with a bit of rain as well.

But I did notice that most of the trees have become less green and are starting to turn yellowy-orangey-red. Autumn is on its way folks!
