Oh dear, i just checked the storage heaters and two have output and input and the one in the hall has boost control and input.

from this i infer that output is boost... is that right?

    *scratches her head*

Yep - output is "boost" Mine has a little sticker telling me which number refers to what time of day - it's manufacturer dependant, 6 on mine is afternoon boost, 3 is evening, 1 = none. and the numbers between are times lost in a warp out in space somewhere -which is where the majority of my heat heads anyways :D

Sadly I now know winter is on its way. Today is the first day in months I have had to dry laundry on the airer inside. No turning back now.
Off to order the coal and wood.

I'm not happy. I've just gone to put up my winter door curtains and they've shrunk  They stank so I washed them before putting them away and must have put it on too high a temperature :o Fortunately the one for the backdoor still fit just but the others are a good 12" too short :o I can use them for other things though ;)

  • 12 inches! Are you sure the house hasn't just had a growth spurt during the summer :rotfl: Oh well at least you can use them elsewhere, but what a disappointment.

What a pain! I'm sure you'll find an inventive and frugal way to sort out the problem though.

I am feeling chilled today - this is partly because I have a cold and partly becuase the wind is howling down the chimney and it's quite cool temp-wise. So I am wearing a polo-neck and a thick cardi, am tucked under a fleece rug with a hot mug of tea, and have a stack of hankies for my cold, I have used up most of my store of paracetamol, throat lozenges etc so will have to replace my stash. So today is a good reminder that I really SHOULD prepare for winter!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Can anyone recomend a good "Daylight" energy saver bulb. I too felt the effects of gloom and doom with the heavy clouds and rain the other day.

I bought a Phillips one from Homebase for £3.50, but be warned it's quite a bright white light and takes a wee bit of getting used to! Really brightens the room on rainy days though :j

Big disappointment :rotfl::rotfl: I think the shrinkage is because its upholstery material and therefore shouldn't really have been washed but the smell was horrible :o

Manchester is cold and very damp today, am looking at the pile of washing and the list of things to do. Washed all the fleeces last night and have the slow cooker on full of steak and kidney (reduced of course) so hopefully the kitchen will be warm enough to dry the washing. Dd going to look at another house which is 3 doors away from the first one but has double glazing, shower and bath and seems much nicer than the other. Can't help thinking its worth it just for the double glazing as our house is so snug since ours was fitted. Its not just the warmth though, things got ruined by the water running off the old windows and the curtains got dirty off the draught.

I leave mine set to 1(boost) and half way (input) only during the coldest period I set the input to max. The boost should sort it self out if left mid way.

Some of the elements had packed up, luckly I had a stash when changing rads a neighbour gave me!

Is it worth putting an extra foot of something else on the bottom? Making a design feature out of it? (You could put a contrasting colour to existing on the bottom, and then put a single line of thick ribbon that same additional colour further up, to make it less obvious that it's a change).

It is lashing it down here in Kent and so windy too. OH has just hung a load of wet washing on the large clothes airer in the spare bedroom.
One of the pigeons is sick...it looks like paramyxovirus to us as it is showing all the symptoms of it.
It is sat outside, feathers all fluffed up, very lethargic and can't pick up seed properly. We are trying to keep it away from our tamer pigeon as I don't want that one to catch whatever this poor thing has.:(

Oh well, 20 seasons in a day here. Now the sun is shining.:D The poor bird has moved into the sunshine and is just sat there, as still as anything. I don't really know what to do to try and help it.:(

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
