Thanks, you beat me to it - I knew I hadn't quite got the price right so thanks for that lol!

They are £2 each or 2 for £3, bought some a few weeks ago & posted about them last week when asda had an 20% off homewear, think that has finished now.
  • still a great price, and i just looked online

Can anyone recomend a good "Daylight" energy saver bulb. I too felt the effects of gloom and doom with the heavy clouds and rain the other day.

I've just ordered some from http://www.firstlightdirect.com. I've ordered from them before and the lights were just what I needed. There might be other websites with similar products but I couldn't be bothered to do more research.

Seafarers_wife, just to say thanks again, I have located a box, put it on top of the piano and it contains - so far - my old corded telephone which we know works in a power cut, a gas lighter, a candle, a torch and - wait for it - THE NUMBER TO RING IN CASE OF A POWER CUT :T - which, in my case, is 08000 727282 (just in case there's any Southern Electric customers out there who can't be bothered to look it up).

Any brillo ideas what else might be useful to have in there? There's a cupboard in the hall with camping stove and kettle, so once I can *see* well enough to get to that, we'll be all right for tea (why yes, that IS the most important thing). We have wood-burning stoves in the house, so I'm not too worried about heat (or lack of). The only thing I must do is make sure my alarm clock has back-up batteries in it in case the power goes off.

You watch, we'll never have another power cut ever again now...
  • Good idea Clare. The number for folks in my region - ScottishPower are our distributor - is 08002727999. I know that off by heart, my brain is a telephone directory how sad is that? :D

Confuzzled, the instructions on the storage heaters I used to have said to turn up the input dial in very cold weather and turn it down when not so cold. I tended to leave it low and only turned it up during cold snaps.

excellent! so i HAVE been doing it right then :rotfl:

i've never actually seen instructions on any that i've ever come across and it's been a fair few... i wonder how many people are as confused as i am, or should i say as i was! :p

can someone tell me where is the best place to buy fleece blankets please?

wanting to use them to back patchwork quilts i am making to keep us snuggly in the winter, downstairs is open plan, and despite heavy curtains at the doors & windows etc, its still quite draughty

that is a brilliant idea for a final backing material. i love patchwork and crazy quilts but they aren't the comfiest of things which can really put people off using them regularly!

i'm in the middle of making a crazy quilt for my daughter made from fabric from her old clothes and odd bits of ribbons and buttons etc (great for hiding poorly hand sewn joins ;)) and i've been wonding what in the world i'd use for a final backing. i'm currently using an old sheet to sew the items too but that is a right mess and will def need a final layer. now i shall just buy a fleece in a coordinating colour and that will help me know when to stop adding things on! :p
