Shellie - for coal stains try White Wizard from Lakeland. That stuff shifts most things. I must admit, it is only now I am pleased the lighter carpet was not in stock and I had to go for the darker one!!

Happy now, I've found (whilest digging out the slow cooker) some chain bottomed thermal lined curtains mum gave us last year that we never got round to hanging over the door. I just need to figure out how to get them over the recessed door, without hampering the door when it opens. This being our major draft causer it will be a bonus to the heating!
Have a look at portiere rods on Ebay, they fit on the door and lift up as you open the door, we have a recessed door into the boot room from the hall and I have put one on there, have a curtain on it, it needs a lining, but I'll ggat round to that before the really bad weather sets in.........
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

well think I had better get my backside in gear with my winter preparations asap once ben goes back to school - had to put the heating on timer last night because it was torrential rain and bloody freezing here.

Need to take into account too that I have babe now too so need to try adn get our bedroom as warm as possibly so foil behind our radiator (outside wall) and fleece lining the curtains I think will need to be done asap - although need to find proper curtains as mine are tab top ones so there are gaps at the top - or should i keep those to help ventilation? and air circulation
    Time to find me again
  • Was awful weather last night in Cardiff, torrential rain, was really chilly too. Went to bed early & put the electric blanket on for a bit! Shocking, in August but had to be done!! Makes me think I need to sort the winter prep out sooner rather than later. Not too much to do, just fleece line some curtains & be brave & pinch some grit from the bin down the road!! Got wellys, waterproof coat, loads of food stockpiled, lots of blankets to cwtch up under, cat litter & food as mentioned a few people ran out of that last year! I went to buy cat litter & was asked if I was using it on the path like everyone else, nope for my cat! Tigger wouldn't like it if I ran out completley!

Got a pair of curtains from the charity shop I want to put up over the front & bacl doors but im not quite sure how im going to do it yet.....think i'll need to get the drill out & have a think, hall was mighty cold last year so needs a bit of winter prep!

Love all the chat & tips on this thread! Keep it coming!

If your door is in a recess these dont work either ! I have tried to find a way to hang curtains at both of my doors but being in an old house with thick walls , the doors are recessed about 9-12 inches but with the door abutting the top of the recess. This means there is no space for the rod to rise!
I have a pole across the recess but not convinced it keeps the heat in or the cold out TBH Any suggestions?

Im in pentwyn, rather chilly this morning!!
  • well it looks like we were all feeling cold yesterday! i dug out the slow cooker and made a vat of veggie curry,as fridge was bursting with veg from parents allotment,i was quite surprised at how much heat the slow cooker produced,so kitchen felt nice and warm!

ive finished lining all the house curtains with fleeces,so thats 1 thing done.
need to buy a new squeedgee for bathroom as in winter the water on tiles doesnt dry off at all after ive showered, and consequently gets mouldy quickly.

stood on scales this morning:eek: so need to lose at least half a stone, prob nearer a stone b4 a lot of my clothes will fit me again, and as theres no way i can afford any new ones i'd better crack on with healthy eating, lentil soup anyone.........
