We have lined curtains which is great but can I put up a fleece by tucking it in along the net curtain wire or will this cause condensation problems? Or is there another way I can help cut back on heat loss through the windows, especially the bedroom ones? Many thanks
We use those plastic containers with the crystal bits in to absorb the condensation. You can buy them at Wilkinsons. You just place them on the window sills, close to the windows.Felines are my favourite

I dry my clothes inside & keep the window in the room with the airers open slightly but was still worried about damp. I am stunned how much water ends up in the unit & I have taken to put it on for a few hours when I hang up the washing & it dries it so much faster! Totally reccomend it esp with a lil one on the way! HTH
just found this, could be helpful to others

Just bought some long johns from ebay and am eyeing up some second hand walking boots. I already have some boots but they are cheap and uncomfortable so hoping for a decent brand second hand pair on ebay. We had a fair bit of snow in Brighton last winter and the council struggled to grit anywhere.
Don't have to worry about getting my flat ready though as it is like an oven in here. Upstairs neighbour is ill so has heating on constant and downstairs are more money than sense boys who would rather wear crop tops and turn up the heat.
Still dead hot down here, though rainy. Windows still wide open at gone half three in the morning. I actually loved the snow and cold as I am originally a northern lass and get sick of the heat down here. I could barely leave the house in June as it was so hot during the day...I even got sunburn last week wearing factor 30!0 -
I think its about time to start Duvet part I as getting/feeling chilly in the nite and add part II in a couple of months!!
Also will be good as cat claws go through sheet n solo duvet cover!!!!0 -
I`ve already decided that when i next change the bed i shall be putting the winter duvet underneath the bottom sheet, its been decidedly chilly for the last couple of nights.
In the living room we don`t have the curtains up for summer only the vertical blinds as it makes it all light and airy for summer, i usually wait until October time to put them back up but i think that it will be earlier this year. I`ve just dug the curtains out complete with the fleeces that i sewed header tape onto last year and i shall line them at the same time as i put them up, usually the linings follow later but as the weather has changed i shall do both at once.
Upstairs in the big bay window thats in our bedroom we have only ever had blinds, think that i shall hang some fleeces at the windows this year to make it more snuggly. Bit too skint to look for curtains atm but fleeces will do nicely so i shall be off to Asd@ later to have a nosy.

Well this is my check list and so far I have done the few things in red.
Living room
* Fleece Blankets for chairs
* Draught Excluders for doors
* Rug for TV end of living room
Bedrooms
* Fleece for over/under sheets
* Blinds for window and fit them properly
* Draught Excluder attached to door
Hallway
* Proper cuddle in bed for dog
* Curtain over door
* Letter box draught excluder
* temperature on low for low constant level
Kitchen
* Blind on window
* Set temperature gauge/timer
Us
* Pyjamas each
* Bed socks each
* Scarf, Hat and gloves for me and ben
* Winter Coat for Benji
* Jumpers/hoodies for me and benji
* Wellies for Ben / Me
* Vests for Ben
* (amended) winter romper for holly
* (amended) sleepsuits for holly
* (amended) baby sleep bag for holly
Fingers crossed for a trip to primark within the next few weeks so will be stocking up on the clothing that's needed mainly and have realised there is nothing on there for babe - she has lots of blankets for her cot but will still need pyjamas/sleep suits etc.
(pause to amend list)
right list amended. best get saving too as I have put money on gas meter (£80) and electric (£65) and after two weeks I'm down to £52.77 (gas) and £42.03 (electric) so that's not too bad as I have showers and the water on for an hour can do boyfriend, Ben and babe for baths although Ben has showers occasionally.
So total use for two weeks is £27.23 for gas and £22.97 for electric. Will continue to top up by the £80 and £65 though each month and fingers crossed that will help us get through winter, will be holding out to see how long I can go without the gas on again though.
Hopefully can get properly started on all these plans once Ben is back in school as it will be easier just me and buggy.Time to find me again0 -
This reminds me I have to collect our duvet from the dry cleaners - we have a 2 parter, and I brought the heavier part to get cleaned 10 days ago. Oops!
I started checking coal prices last night and I think I would be better off, initially anyway, getting a load delivered and filling the small bunker we have. Maybe when I am off while DD has her first week at school....and then DH doesn't need to give out about it either!!
Having had a scorcher of a day on Sunday, we have moved back to much cooler weather this week and there is a real feel of autumn in the air now, and the evenings are visibly drawing in. So I think it is definitely time to work on final preps for this season.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

Netto has a slanket-type blanket for £5 in their 19 August leaflet.
Has anyone got a slanket and do you find them good? I don't really have anywhere - except bed - to snuggle up and watch tv although I do have a fire, but it's in the kitchen. So I tend to be doing things rather than sit still for any length of time. Have you ever stood up suddenly and tripped over the thing? That's my fear. If I do sit on the sofa in cheerless living room for an evening I tend to snuggle under a duvet. Is this better?
Anyway, for anyone who wants to try one, Netto on Thurs is the place to be!
