Im afraid you wouldnt, the ignition is probably more than likely electric (mine is) they tend to have a safety mechanism in them as well so the gas wont come out.
Try flicking your electric off in the house from your fuse board and try the hob, i doubt it will work but you never know unless you try0 -
Mine works fine with a match. Try it.0

Right everyboday,
Since I want to prepare for winter properly,
I want to learn to knit, my sons are 4 and 2 years so not too old to wear proper knitted things and im sure my mum would love a pair of knitted gloves:money:
Can anybody please give me some advice on where to start and what i need
Please please
Thank you, thank you, thank you0 -

I just went and turned the leccy off at the mains and my gas cooker works fine just lit with a match. We don't get many powercuts here but it's good to know I'd still be able to make tea!

I got the yarn from the internet, its not cheap, i think it comes from scandanavia its called socenwolle hot socks.
I have knitted myself a pair too, but have not sewn them up yet, photo to follow, have to graft the toe, need peace and quiet to do that, have to concentrate. The pattern also came off the internet, I put in 2 needle socks and found the pattern there, very simple, the only comlicated bit is when you come to join the stitshes for the heel, you need to be very careful and THINK what you are doing. The first time I read the pattern it did not make sense and after a bit I could see it was not right so pulled it back, look at the sock and bingo YAY!! got it right. When you have done it once its easy.
I also got some wool from Scotland via the internet, cannot tell you what it is just now, am in the middle of emptying the sitting room for them to take the below out 8am tomorrow, will have to be up early with my knickers on!!!Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
I get lots of powercuts so I know these things LOL - but I have calor gas and it might have been different.
RP, try youtube videos, they say they are great because you can see exactly what to do.0 -

Csarina, will check out that yarn, it's lovely. I have the striping Regia wool and I love that too - I got it cheap from Kemps online shop but it's not in stock now. No fear since I'm VERY slow and it will probably take me till winter 2011 to finish this pair of socks.
Your sitting room is well and truly decluttered - nice minimalist look! Are you getting rid of the wood burner? It's gorgeous and cosy looking - I would love one like that!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
