I definately need to buy thermals this year, for me and for my daughter because i am adamant that the heating won't be going on until it is absolutely necessary. Anyone have any recommendations of places to buy womens thermals ? TIA.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I think I will have to go and try on some as the one time I bought them without doing that they fitted so badly that my OH had tears streaming down his face with laughter!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I want to make mittens for myself and the children for when we're walking to school, I was thinking of making an outer cover on them though filled with wheat so I can heat them in the microwave like you do those heat pads. Any ideas what fabrics would be safe to be microwaved? Thanks x0

I think with thermals you have to buy good ones, not cheap ones, it makes a huge difference.0

I would knit the mittens with a pocket and make small microwaveable pads separately. That way the mittens could be used and washed without the pads, and the pads could be microwaved without the mittens.0 -
Although I think that Autumn is 'in the air' I read in the paper last night that autumn is going to be late because of the late hard cold winter we had earlier this year. The article said that because of that everything would be later to flower or fruit - in particular they mentioned blackberries. I cannot comment on them as there are very few where I live but the elderberries are right on schedule. I make my own wine and I'm usually picking elderberries late Sep/early Oct and they certainly look like they will be ready by then.0

I have bought them from Matalan in the last and they were fine - have stood in the snow watching football and been not too cold. If you have any outlet village type things around the outdoor stores usually have some decent "base layers", good quality and good prices.0 -
the best i've found so far for cold hands is hot pockets and they are reusable too they come in different shapes and they are filled with a liquid and metal disc you press the disc and it activates the liquid that sort of goes solid and lovely and warm fit in kids and grown ups mittens then when they've gone cold you just put them in a pan and boil to reactivate best bit is when you buy them( 79p for pack of 2 they are ready to use ) and you can take them with you when you go out 2 lots 1 walking to town and other on way home or when you pick kids up from school activate when you get there and put them in their pockets if they've not got any mittens or lost them hope this helps2nd purse challenge no040£0 Sealed pot challenge ???? £2 trolley find not counting small coins till end year0

NulaBula it is much easier to turn tap off and turn tap on till tap drained and leave like this till last of cold weather oh and i also wrapped bubble wrap round it to till it was time to turn off and left it as there will be no water in pipe or tap no chance of water freezing and expanding hope you have a burst free winter2nd purse challenge no040£0 Sealed pot challenge ???? £2 trolley find not counting small coins till end year0

Quick question, i have a free standing oven, hob is gas & oven is electric, if there was a powercut would I still be able to use the gas hob?
Thanks in advance!0
