Because of you lot I've messed up my moneysaving. After prowling round the stand several times over the last week or two, I've succumbed to the Primark fleecy jamas. OH is going to be impressed, especially since one lot have little moo cows printed all over them. To be honest, if it gets any colder we will probably end up fighting for them.

also get the fresh ginger in

Grate a piece and steep in hot water and strain. Take a mugful out and add juice of half a lemon and some manuka honey

We used to have that a lot in our house - Thanks for reminding me

Morning er afternoon all. Our bathroom window has force 10 gale blowing through an dh says the black stuff around the flap that opens (double glazed) needs replacing. Anyhoo was browsing the In My Home board the other day (18th) and someone had similar problem and one of the replies, from powerRIP, suggested buying Stormguard Extra Weatherstrips in black. It costs £6.99 for a 7 metre roll from Screwfx. Bought some yesterday so not fitted yet but fingers crossed it will work. Sorry can't do linky things. Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for the info on the portiere rods :T I just have to decide which fabric to use now..what sort of weight do you think works best with these? I have everything from upholstery to voile :rotfl: I'm going to have to have a sewing day I think as the draught excluders need doing too...and I have 2 pairs of 'favourite' camo trousers I have to try and salvage
I take that echinacea stuff when I start getting the sniffles and *touch wood* it seems to ward the lurgies off well..
  • I have the metal portiere rods and on the front door are medium weight lined curtains but on the back door they are heavy tapestry type curtains IYKWIM, this door isn't used as much as the front so I don't know whether that would make a difference but haven't had any problems. I think you can buy different pole strengths according to the weight of your curtains just as you can with normal poles.

I used a hot water bottle to warm the bed up last night, I havn't used one for years and can't believe the difference it made it was still warm this morning. OH did fill it purely with boiling water though am I right in thinking you should add some cold??
Anyway I will be using one again most nights through the winter I think although OH said he got too hot lol.

For the dead of winter, I have 2 HWBs, one for my back and one for my feet! I made some simple fleece covers which are easy to remove and wash to freshen them up.

An old lady, who had been a widow for many years, told me she missed her husband keeping her back warm and so she would put a pillow longways in the bed to lean against. I've tried this and it really does help

    Hi Toria
Is the hot water bottle you used last night the same one that you haven't used for years? If so I'd be very wary about using boiling water as the rubber may have started to perish. In fact, you should never use boiling water in a hot water bottle as it will damage the rubber and shorten its life.

I fill my bottle with water thats just off the boil. Dont overfill it though, and I was always told to squeeze the air out of the bottle whilst putting the stopper in - be careful not to squeeze water out over your hand - this creates a vacuum and not sure why this should be safer (something to do with steam expansions maybe) but I always do it.
