I just did a search on this thread as planning to make some door curtains to keep out the chills..Can't find anythng about these..(they're those rods that lift up as you open the door) Does anyone have these?? Are they worth getting or would I be just as well to use a bit of dowelling to make a rod (which I already have)
Any thoughts??

D&DD,
I have been looking for portiere rods in several places and have been met with vacant stares by staff so maybe they are no longer available...am thinking that if I can get a swivel towel rail thingy it might do, although probably not long enough to take a curtain for a door...will be in B&Q later with a tape measure and will see what I can get and if anything useful post on here...my back door is worst as wind whistles through even with sticky insulation stuff in use.

You can buy Portiere rods on Ebay, they are quite expensive at about £30 but do the job,

I have got a real portiere rod and it lifts up as the door is opened. I leave the heavy curtain on it all the time and just tie it back with a tie back in the warm months. It is FAB but I had to hunt all over the net for it because it had to be fitted on a door in a recess
here it is. Mine is a bit down the page and is called a portiere track. One of the best things I have bought

Just a reminder to all - Winter is essentially here so don't forget to stock up on hot lemon drinks and cough sweets. Its not just your home that needs winter-proofing!
A girl in my office had a sniffle yesterday, and at about ten last night I developed a full on sore throat and runny nose from it. Luckily I had the above provisions in, so am dosed up to the eyeballs.
I'd make sure you have some supplies in before you come into contact with the bugs.

5 of us in our house are streaming with colds too
Luckily I was loaded up with Beechams cold and flu plus the usual kiddy remedies like Tixylix/Calpol/Calprofen etc as both dd's had temeratures sky high
The window film is on some of the windows ! We have uPVC double glazing but I thought the triple layer would help - I am sure it has - lovely and warm in here today ! I am quite impressed. I thought it would be really fiddly to put on but its not and its transparency is good too - I thought it would be annoying looking thru it but its not, its fine and only up close can you notice its thereWas only 9.99 from Wilkinsons, cheaper than what I have seen on ebay

Thanks for that M, thats one thing I hadn't thought of. My meds cabinet is always well stocked but I do need to get some cough medicine and throat lozenges.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

also get the fresh ginger in
Grate a piece and steep in hot water and strain. Take a mugful out and add juice of half a lemon and some manuka honey
My dh made a jug full of ginger and dipped into it all day, heating each mug up. Also wrap the neck up esp the back of the neck
It has completely got rid of his cough. Nasty cough doing the rounds everywhere0
