Olliebeak, my aunt lives in sheltered council accommodation and if there are powercuts I think the la provide gas heaters for vulnerable residents. Dont think my aunt could use one as she is on oxygen but we are close enough to keep her supplied with hot water bottles, hot food and drink.

Its a bit of a worry where there are wrinklies - I'm allowed to say that because I'm practically one myself :rotfl:
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

In the past when anybody has had a problem with their central heating and/or gas fires, the housing trust has provided them with electric convector heaters - obviously these would be no use at all in the event of a power cut.

In fact, if the power cut was during the evening, there would be panic stations if I were to contact our out of hours service to say that 60+ properties were without heating of any form! Think I need a word with my line manager tomorrow morning!

Rosieben - I know the feeling - I'm not that far from being one of the 'wrinklies' myself! I could finish up being older than some of my tenants before I retire! Really looking forward to getting my bus pass in a couple of years time - everybody over 60 in Liverpool :j .

Hey Ellidee and D&DD - you two from from Liverpool by any chance :D ? Yup I'm one who can't wait to become a twirly :j !!!

One of my fellow wardens has just turned 60 and loves her bus pass. She's stopped using her car during the day and just flits around on the bus to get from one of our schemes to another! And she feels really flattered when the drivers ask if it's her mother's pass!!!

Whilst I still have not put on the central heating or gas fire I do recognise that it may not be too long before being forced into action!

Meanwhile, a while ago someone mentioned bamboo blankets and I've been trying to find a UK stockist. So far have only found baby blankets available and have even tried to get one shipped from USA but the company wouldn't do it. Can anyone help with the name of the stockist please??
  • We were given a queensize feather duvet a while back, we put it on the bed last night & it was soooo warm. I think that's us sorted for the winter.

Well I have been flippin freezing today :( I also have a fever so am shivering.

I sent dp out on a 90 minute round trip to find a Wilkinsons to buy that plastic cling film for windows stuff (whateveritscalled:confused: ) so we will be doing that tomorrow on the windows that have nets up. Am thinking of doing conservatory roof in it as its absolutely perishing in there now we have the 2 sets of curtains between there and lounge. Lounge being 100% warmer since I did it !

Am looking for door curtains for front and back doors now - I know that made a big difference at the last house.

And I finally finished the roman blind with thermal blackout liner for the bedroom so that has made a difference too :)

Hope everyone is warm and snug this evening
