I`m still in `summer mode`, and will be for a while yet. There`s a batch of birthdays this month and August, and my main hols this year are first half of September (Devon, don`t do abroad anymore, I hated flying so why bother!?) A late summer hol keeps summer more in focus, I think, and I do hate the way we rush into the next season before the current one has barely started! I noticed Asda doing `back to school` kit last week, and the kids haven`t broken up for summer holiday yet. The rate my grandchildren are growing it`s pointless getting school stuff for them now.
I`m still enjoying fresh fruit and veg in season, and looking forward to runner beans anytime now, and finding items for the summer birthdays.
BUT I` know winter`s coming...AND Christmas.
I`m already stockpiling logs, and happy to see my coal store unused (except by our black cat who likes to roost on the coal, Lord knows why, it can`t be comfortable, but at least it`s dry so no black paw-prints!), I`m saving my Tesco points, and all my 20 pence pieces, and squireling away little treats or bargains ready for winter, though this won`t kick in properly till mid-August. I`ve picked and frozen loads of redcurrants (though some blackbirds got more of `em than I did!) I`ll make my `fresh` redcurrant sauce to go with my turkey as it`s nicer than cranberry, and with a winter lamb roast or several, before it runs out. I think there`s a balance between planning/preparing ahead, and enjoying NOW.0 -
I think I am going to do, maybe too far in advance but if last winter was anything to go buy..... I have bought a bucket, 89p in Aldi this week and am going to fill it with grit from the grit bin at the end of the road. I have some very steep steps in my garden & if its snowy it'll be too late to try & get up them to get some grit! My boyfriend thinks im nuts but I dont care....he'll see! Also if leave it till winter maybe everyone will have the same idean & there will be none left!!0

I've given up with summer and settled down at the fire to knit. Am not happy
The sky is dull dark grey, the wind is howling and blustering round the house, the plants are all ruined, and I have no sweeties !!!
