today i received a parcel that came with a really long good sized width of bubble wrap so i've finally been able to put the bubble wrap up in the bathroom window (no mean feat, very hard to get to) and for the door in the hall (that keeps our stairway seperate, i live upstairs with a main door entrance)

so far so good, it's been quite cool in here today because i decided to try an eek out another day on the no heat front (been alternating days, one with heat and hot water, one without etc) putting it up seems to have taken a bit of the edge off the rooms. i'll def be putting the heaters on tonight though!

the couch cozy thing has been nice and comfy and my slipper boots really help a lot

so far not doing too badly considering there have been hard frosts for about 5 days running here...

Earlier on this year I gave a recipe for coffee wine and I'm wondering did anyone make any? I thought I'd do a report on the results and hope you'll do the same!

After it was all finished and cleared, I 'fortified' 3 bottle with a good couple of dollops of dark rum and 3 bottles with brandy. They are delicious but as a dark rum drinker that is the one I have a preference for. The wine definately tastes of coffee but that was no problem for me either. I will definitely be making some more!!

Hope someone else has an opinion to express:T

Well I'm all set with fleece blankets, jackets and what not, but the weather is still warm. Right now for instance, I have the windows ajar in every room to let fresh air circulate, and is raining outside - but no heating on as it's not at all cold.

Kingshir, so sorry but the thought of coffee wine makes me... well... reach for a beer, lol.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

The weather is just the same here!
No offence taken, I knew it wouldn't appeal to everyone, all the more for me;)

I don't think I saw your recipe for coffee wine but I would love to try it. I'm completely self sufficient in homemade wine and always on the look out for something new to try. Could you please post your recipe again?
  • I have just bought a pair of slipper boot thingys from Tesco £4 (£5 less 20% at till). I'm in love. Warm soft feet with fluffy cuddly ankles. I'm going to get another pair when I go for when they get wet/dirty/something spilled on them. I feel all cuddled.

Sorry for the delay in responding, back at work now!
    Right coffee wine recipe -

5 rounded tbs spoons ordinary instant coffee
3 lbs sugar (I used white this time, next time I'm going to try brown to see if there is any noticable difference) If you prefer a much sweeter wine add another 8oz.
    1 gallon hot water
Yeast (any sort, I used bakers yeast as that was all I had at the time)

Put the sugar, coffee and water (in that order) into a bucket and stir well. Cover with a cloth and keep somewhere warm.Stir daily for 3 days then add the yeast, continue to stir daily and then on the 7th day put it into a demijohn and fit an airlock. Again keep it somewhere warm and leave to ferment. Mine was finished in approx 6 weeks and then I bottled it and put it in the garage (cool, helps it clear quickly). It is ready to drink once it is clear, please be aware that it does taste of coffee! I added the brandy and rum (separately of course) to add a bit of depth (and because I like experimenting) approx 2-3 caps of brandy and (because I like dark rum) 4-6 caps of the rum. I should think Tiara Maria or Baileys would be nice too.

6 bottles of coffee wine costs less than a pound (not including spirits) to make so if you're not mad keen on it then you haven't lost a lot of money when you thrown it away.:D
