kingshir, I noticed the same thing, but thought I was imagining it! I've been lazy so have pinned my Primark fleeces to the curtains in my bed bedroom and the living room. I'll do the same for the spare room in December.

We have been trying to get the new curtains put up, unfortunately however when we drilled into the wall the wall crumbled so we have a messy wall and no curtains!

Me too. When I pinned the sheets inside the curtains, the curtain rail fell of the wall, so no nice warm curtains!

However the back of my dining chairs are snuggly warm as my curtains are all ironed and hung over the back of them :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We had the crumbling wall problem - n0 m0re nai|s and a length of skirting type board works, then screw the hooks into that :D

    Hi

I've been reading this post with great interest for weeks!

I popped into Primark today and picked up a Couch Cosy for £6.85 - similar to the the slanket mentioned earlier but much, much cheaper!

Now I've got it home and opened the packet it's great - really big and cosy!

We already use blankets on the settee but this will be great for me doing my cross stitch etc as my arms will will well wrapped up too!

I'd had someone looking out for the Snuggle Blanket (I think that's what they called it) the larger Morrisons stores were selling for £10 but when I read your post I went into Primark and bought myself a Couch Cosy and totally agree - its great - really big and cosy - and great price! Thanks:j
  • Many thanks to all the posters .. particularly the ones about using bubble wrap and blocking the chimney up when not in use.

Read the posts a while ago but was sceptical if either would make much difference...

    How wrong I was!

I scavenged two huge sheets of bubble wrap from the bins at work to give it a go with our front door. Since we don't use this door, I was able to staple the sheets to the door curtain rail and skirting. I joined the overlap in the middle with double sided tape pieces and the curtains over the top did a good disguise job.

I was given a old felted wool picnic rug and have hung this from the mantelpiece so it completely covers the the fireplace - so it can be easily removed to light the fire.

What a difference these two little things have made, the room is so much warmer and draught-free.

Just wanted to say 'Thank You' for all the great suggestions and strategies - I will be re-reading all the posts for more to try :j!

i got one today too after reading about it on here, thanks!

i'm a size 26 so sadly it doesn't wrap fully around me, instead i've turned it around and i'm wearing it like a robe, open in bottom half... i think that's incentive to lose weight :rotfl: at anyrate it is lovely and warm thoughi think i may fold the sleeves over and stitch them in place so they are still loose but not floppy, they keep getting into things!

Got the Polveride throws from IKEA - have managed to put up the cream ones behind the curtains in the bedroom. All I did was take the curtain hook off the curtain ring and loop the hook through the ready made hole!

Got the red throws which have larger holes and will just thread the curtain pole through the holes in between the curtains.

    No velcro/sticking,stitching etc :j

bedroom is much warmer - if I can baby to settle tomorrow I'll do living room.

Also got some chunky draught exckuders in B&M 2 for £7

Today we've put tin foil boards behind all the outside wall radiators bar the bedroom as we ran out of cardboard.

We've also bled all the radiators and made sure the boiler was up to pressure. The upstairs ones are all off and doors closed, except the shower room, which we've left on.

A few weeks back I bought some of those draught excluders that sit either side of the bottom of the door. £10 for 4 from Ebay - not very MSE but I'm not handy in any way and if the door was opened by the cats, we'd be forever pushing them back (plus if I didn't do it, it would never be done ;)). Because of the cats, our doors are open a lot of the time, but in the evening, we close the living room door and get a fire going and it's been cozy. Heatings only just gone on and even now, it's only set to 17 degrees (only for the time that we're in the house - we have one of those fancy programmable remote timers for the heating). Last year it would have been on a month already and on 21 degrees pretty much constant  If I get really chilly, first it's layers, leave it for half an hour, if i'm still cold i'll turn it up a degree or two.

Alls that left to do now is put that foam stuff all round the inside door (Ebay - £2.50 for a roll) and fleece the bathroom window but i'm not making a special journey in the car so that'll have to wait now till we next go to Asda/Tesco/Primark.
