What I'd really like is an electric throw. But they're around 40-50 quid.

Bought some great gloves in A!di today for £1.99. Lovely teal coloured thinsulate and just what I was looking for winter dog walking
Also picked up a long sleeved top and long john set for winter walking for £7.99 and picked up the offers leaflet and the normal thermals are in store next Thurs from £2.99. Better see if I can nip in on Thurs at lunchtime before my size disappears!!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
I've made my 'winter bed' today..put the Witney blanket (charity shop) under the bottom sheet, and put the flannelette bedding on, with a new quilt (kingsize anti allergy £17.00) and my thick quilted cotton throw.
I'll be all snuggly in there with my hot water bottle later.
Oh, and Primark's flannel pyjamas - not such good quality this year but they do the job
But Mr. Nobody keeps leaving the back door open! How do I solve this annoying problem?

The risk is that we're all going to spend so much on these keeping warm ideas we might as well have put the heating on in the end!! But I love not being dependent on it. As I've run out of oil I can't put the heating on if I wanted to. I've had to order some though as I have children from a softer family coming to stay in a couple of weeks, I could cope much longer without if it wasn't for that but I think once I've had it on it will be too hard to resist.

They are a good size, as someone else said they're like a blanket with arms (i'm not so good with a sewing machine so it was a good alternative for me). OH uses his comfortably he's tall and quite big built and my very preggers friend still had plenty of space too. On the box its called a snuggle blanket so hope i havent misled anyone, sorry if i have. I defo think they are good for the price compared to some similar products i've seen on the net and they do the job!£387.39/£196.46

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
I had a happy afternoon trawling charity shops and came home with a big peachy fleece blanket and a heavy brown throw, both Dunelm Mill, £5 for both, a pair of tiebacks to match the front and back door curtains, £1.99, and a pair of jeans for £2. Got a hot water bottle with a knitted cover for £5 in Lloyds, when they were £12.99 up the road in Boots. Finally stopped at Mr Ts and found Benylin cold and flu capsules on offer at 99p for a pack of 16, then followed the reducing man along the meat aisle and stocked up on cheap cuts to try in the slow cooker. T's have fitted fleece underblankets for £12.99 double bed size, I wonder if they are as warm as putting a thin duvet under the bottom sheet, as they wouldn't be so bulky?0

A different viewpoint from me: it isn`t just about keeping warm but about having enough food etc in so that we don`t `need` to go shopping when the weather is bad. Candles for powercuts, matches, wind up lanterns. plug in phone, a few extra toilet rolls, some extra cans etc. I am personally drying onions today in my dehydrator as they are cheap just now and so so handy. I feel as though it is part of my hibernating process ie getting the harvest safely indoors. Tomorrow I will dry bramley slices and peppers on monday. I love having everything tucked away for winter
couldn't agree with you more there. i love all parts of winter's 'battening down the hatches' including having what i call a 'food savings account'
last thing i want to do (especially as i gave up driving years and years ago) is to have to mess with going out to the shops when it's pishing down rain! i feel much more secure when the cupboards are well stocked and i have plenty of toiletries and basic supplies in. it's also a good idea these days in particular with the economy as bad as it is, i'm sure i could live for a few months on just a top up of 5 quid a week for some fruit/bread if i used up everything in my cupboards.
combining the sense of security of well stocked cupboards with a snug home gives just that added bit of winter coziness, bliss0 -
Hey I do like that, thank you, wonder if it can go on a door that's not in the corner, I'll have to check it out.
I feel like slept like a log last night, if anything it was too warm and I never took the hot water bottle or wore my pyjamas. I'll have to take the top throw off for a while.
10 out of 10 for the Asda duvet and pillows, the pillows were still perky when I woke up and the duvet stayed in place all night and that is unusual for me.....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
